Ack! Every few years we have storms like that here (but obviously usually don't create a tornado) and that's enough for me.

What always creeps me out is the color of the sky.

Yes. At least the one in my neighborhood does. On the news coverage I've watched tonight, some of the sirens around the area sound a little different and even include spoken messages.

This kind of weather is usually a summer event for us, not winter. Honestly, I don't like it whatever the season and night storms are the worst because I can't see the clouds. Have you ever seen a nervous dog during a storm? Not the dog that huddles in a corner and whimpers but one that paces back and forth and can't sit still. That's me during a storm. I'll wear a path between the windows at the front and back of the house. This storm wasn't too bad because I was only freaked out for about an hour or so.

Several years ago, I lived in a little house that was like a fishbowl...all windows and doors. There was no interior room or basement for protection. A ferocious storm with howling winds roared in one afternoon. The winds swirled so wildly that I couldn't figure out which direction to look. I paced back and forth non-stop. I reached the back door in time to see a tree get ripped apart about 6 foot off the ground in my back yard. I never want to see that again.

Oh hell no. I would have peed my pants if I were you.

One time, I was at a friend's house during a thunderstorm. She made me come outside and watch it. We were sitting there and then lightning hit the house across the street. I could actually feel the electricity.

I stay inside with the blinds closed when it's storming. I'd probably do badly in Tornado Alley.

Don't you have storm shelters, or even basements, where you can feel safe?

Not really. I've never lived any place with a basement. I'm currently in a top floor apartment at the end of a building. The way the building is designed, I have 3 exterior walls. You know how people say you should take shelter away from exterior walls and get into the bathtub or closet? Where are the closets and bathtubs located in my apartment? On the exterior walls, of course.

If I'm ever really uncomfortable with a windy weather situation, I'll go introduce myself to one of the downstairs neighbors.

Today slush is falling from the sky.

My mom's house got hit by lightning last year. She was relatively lucky-- she lost the router and two computers were slightly damaged (one lost its usb ports, the other lost its ethernet port, which was kind of awkward, but we replaced it with a wireless unit).

We get tornado warnings here. At the university, the alarms include spoken announcements. (We have trouble explaining tornadoes to some of the international students.) I've never seen one, but we had a bad one last summer-- some of you mentioned seeing the pictures on the news. I've seen the green sky effect, and I've been in really bad hail storms. That's enough for me.

Tornados yesterday and 75 degrees.
Blue skies today and 40 degrees, dropping all day into the 20's tonite.

That'll give the peach farmers something to complain about. If it's too dry, too wet, too warm, too cold, too dark at nite, just anything has them on TV talking about the peach crop being in danger. Every single year. Then in June, the peaches are always delicious.

I want some homemeade peach icecream now.

I've got a recipe for that:

First, grow some peaches...

Naw, can't do it. My back yard is too wet and dry and hot and cold and dark at night for peach trees.

See? That has been the ideal solution for years and years for backyard fruit growers.

Why don't more people do it?
