You won't lose the jailbreak by connecting to the internet, who told you you would?
What connecting to the internet does is runs the risk of an over-the-air firmware update (if there is one available from Amazon). Which in turn causes hacks to need to be reinstalled (since their support code was removed from the newly-updated rootfs). The jailbreak itself is bridged and will not be harmed by the firmware update. |

I read that as the poster changed the (S.O.) device's registration status.
Does that now trigger the bridge code or does the device have to be re-booted? |

Deregistration? That just erases the MKK (I believe it is built into Amazon's Kindlet Developer Program, so random yahoos cannot get ahold of a "qualified" developer's Kindle and run unapproved code on the device).
The "bridge" code triggers on every reboot, and this time around will detect that the MKK is broken and bridge it back in. |

@mjkarma:
Reboot your device now to restore what was changed of its jb when you changed its registration status. After that reboot your device's jail break will be safe (again) from an OTA update. Last edited by knc1; 07-29-2016 at 04:04 PM. |

Jailbreak process for Oasis.
I've gotten through all the steps except #7. Not sure how to get the Kindle back to 5.8 from downgrading. I tried the 5.8.1 install file and the Kindle says its not the right one. Can anyone assist? Can I do it automatically through turning on wifi and updating or does it need to be done manually? The jailbreak went through and I have yet to add anything as yet.
thanks for any info. Stanley Last edited by feelmaroon; 07-29-2016 at 08:57 PM. |

You can go to the link in step 7 and use that link.
You will need to turn on the wifi. |

Thanks, Cinisajoy. Flipped the Wifi back on my Oasis, dragged in the update 5.8.1, ejected then this comes up on the screen: "Update Error-- invalid update file have been loaded onto your device. Please go to www.amazon.com/device support to access the Kindle Software Update page...
I'm looking to find the URL for the software update you mentioned in spoiler #7 but when i click on the Download Software Update, it just pulls the install file. Can I just Update the Kindle OTA instead of doing it manually? (perhaps an idiotic question. Apologies in advance) |

You want the current firmware version, so: Put Kindle on line and wait, it will auto-update over the air. On some firmware versions, there is a 'sync and check for new items' (or something similar) menu entry. Sometimes using that will help trigger the OTA update process. |

Everything was a success. Thank you knc1 and cinisajoy for the assistance. Getting those stock screensavers is freedom. For the average idiot (me), I stuck right on till step 7 and got caught up. Helped when I read the thread where it was mentioned the jailbreak was safe but the hacks are not when OTA occurs. To prevent OTA, i'll put that folder in that you mention in #7. Great work to all of you. God bless the stuff you all do on MobileReads. Onto figuring out how to install a font with more weight.
