Make sure to follow the directions carefully. If you do even one thing wrong, the ordering system is very unforgiving. I have spent literally an hour or more trying to straighten things out from punching the wrong key--more like an hour and a half the last time, and I never did get the book! In fact, this last time, I wrote Wipf and Stock and told them my issues with their ordering system, and that I was unsubscribing; they haven't unsubscribed me, though.

I noticed that the Kindle version is only $2.99. This time, I'm just going to spring for it.

"Hundreds" of Wipf and Stock Ebooks and Resources Now Only $4.99 Each.

I just got an email from Logos Bible Software saying that "hundreds" of Wipf and Stock resources are now just $4.99 each there. That represents a savings of up to 91%.

Let me address the inevitable question/objection. No, you don't have to have the desktop version of Logos to read any of the Logos books; you can also use the Logos app. Or the Vyrso app. Or Biblia, which is Web-based. That is made possible because of the fact that all three of those companies fall under the FaithLife company's umbrella.

You can read more about this sale at the Logos blog, and https://www.logos.com/publisher-spot...Sspotlight2018.

This sale comes at a fortuitous time for me. Logos has a 2-volume set of Wipf and Stock books on sale that I've wanted. It is already on sale at 50% off at Logos. However, if the individual books are among those in the $4.99 sale, I'll save a sweet additional $15.

An advertisement states that the sale is "this month only," so I assume that you have until the end of November to grab some great bargains from Wipf and Stock publishing.

You may have noticed that I used the word "resources," along with "books." That's because Wipf and Stock is also offering academic journals at the same price of $4.99 (I don't know yet if that is for each, for a year, or what).

Now go and save some big bucks.

Joel B. Green's New Horizon Commentary on 1 Peter--$1.99. More for $1.99+.

Amazon has a large number of The Two Horizons Old and New Commentary (THOTC and THNTC) series on sale at price points of $1.99, $2.99, and $3.99. The prices on the rest of the commentaries in the series are, well . . . . let's say, significantly higher than that.

I am posting this before I have looked over most of the sale selection myself. I can recommend 1 Peter, by Joel B. Green, already, however, based upon 1) ratings for the book--4.3(8) at Amazon and 3.88(24) at GoodReads, 2) the fact that Green is a prolific, highly-regarded scholar and author. (You can see what is basically the CV of his in-print books at this Amazon webpage), and 3) the book is such a substantial one (352 pages), especially for such a relatively short "book" of the Bible. Unfortunately Amazon's "Look Inside" feature is not available on two of the volumes that I checked, so it may not be available on the rest of the volumes, either.*

I'll try to post more "buy" suggestions, after I've had a chance to vet the rest of the marked-down titles.

Here are all of the Two Horizons Old and New Testament Commentaries available at Amazon, sorted by price, low to high.

ADDENDUM: You also might want to avail yourself of Best Commentaries' rankings for individual volumes of Two Horizons Old Testament books and Two Horizons New Testament books.

* While Amazon's "Look Inside" feature may not be available, there are good previews of many, if not most, of the volumes, at this Google webpage and probably elsewhere on the web.

FREE Book from Crossway on How Each Book of Bible Relates to the Story of Redemption.

Once again, Crossway wants to give us a free ebook. Once again, it's a good one, worth downloading, IMHO.

Crossway has given away ebooks in the past (and pretty frequently at that). However, all of those giveaways, that I remember, required that we do something (usually, if not always, complete a survey) to get it. With this giveaway, we have to do . . . nothing. Nothing, that is, but share our email address with Crossway and click on link(s) to the digital format(s) (mobi, ePub, and/or PDF) that we want of the ebook.

The book is The Story of Redemption: How Each Book of the Bible Relates to the Unfolding Promises of God. No author is stated--with a book like this, authorship would probably be attributed to "the staff" of the publisher.

Although there may be something in this 82-page book that members of some sect or denomination would disagree with, it appears to be basically nondenominational, and something that anyone who describes himself or herself as a "Christian" probably would appreciate.

There is no charge for the ebook; however, we all know that there is "no free lunch" in life. Crossway uses this giveaway to advertise, in the lower part of the page, its The ESV Story of Redemption Bible. If I had to guess, I would say that the free ebook is probably a synopsis of some feature found in that study Bible.

Here's the link.

Free, through Nov. 18, if things go as planned . . . .

Same-Sex Mirage: Phantasmagoria at the Altar & Some Biblical Responses, by Douglas Wilson.

From Canon Press. I've been pleased to see books of their's come up on the bargain ebook lists recently. If for no other reason, the books very often are marked down to free.

4.0 (2) at Amazon; 4.44 (18) at GoodReads. 292 pages,

Obergefell v. Hodges and the legalization of gay marriage was wonderful — in that it’s now forcing every Christian to decide whether their allegiance is to the Supreme Court or to the Supreme Being. In every other way, Obergefell was terrible.

Same-Sex Mirage starts with the fundamentals of marriage and then traces the effects of this foundational institution in every area of life. Is marriage a private matter — an agreement before God alone? Or is it public — a matter for legislation?

Obergefell was a disaster for our nation. And, as with every disaster, the biggest benefit is in understanding how we Christians ignored all warnings and let it happen.

Outstanding deal! Thanks for posting it. Another one that you have posted that I somehow missed . . . . I'm definitely going to purchase it!

(I'm speaking now to all of you who are reading this post). This is the revised and updated edition, 2011. There has been so much that has changed since 2011. Not nearly as much as in other fields, though. When I first became aware of e-books and other e-media, I envisioned one of the benefits being that authors and publishers of non-fiction would be constantly updating those products, and providing the updates more-or-less free! No more old editions of World Book and such! Of course, I was living in a fantasy land--It appears that little has changed in regard to non-fiction ebooks staying up-t-date.

Probably archaeological news changes more than anything else in Biblically-related fields. If you're interested in Biblical archaeology, may I recommend that you get a Biblical Archaeology Review (BAR) subscription to supplement this dictionary, if you don't have one already? The magazine also covers other Bible-related news and such, too.

Hershel Shanks, who I'm thinking had been editor since the beginning of the magazine years ago, retired fairly recently. It remains to be seen what changes that the new guy will make. One thing that I noticed in the last issue is that almost all of the first half of the magazine had little to do with archaeology! But that may have happened in issues of this magazine with Shanks at the helm, and I didn't notice it; I'm sure that I'm looking for what has changed with this editor over the last one, maybe even subconsciously.

(Speaking to Difflugia, now). Another thing that you often beat me at is being succinct.

Boatload of PalgraveMacmillan Ebooks, Written on a More Popular Level--Only $15 Each!

If I mention publisher PalgraveMacmillan (the link directs you to the U.S. site (I assume only if you live in the U.S.)) at all, it has been occasionally to mention "daily" specials that they have on their ebooks. The retail price of the ebooks ranges from about $20 to $120, and the special price is usually around $8-12. So, you can score some great deals.

However, PalgraveMacmillan is running a super "Cyber Monday" sale now (through Nov. 26) on ebooks. The sale books are $15/15£/15€ each, which, admittedly, is more than the daily specials ever (that I remember) are. What you get in return, however, is a huge number of choices and, it seems, books with seemingly a broader-based appeal than the fare that we are offered on "daily" specials.

The ebooks cover a variety of subjects; I am posting this on the "Christian Interest" thread in order to highlight ebooks in that subject. Many of the things that I say below are subject-specific.

A hint: if you use the drop-down menu for subjects, you will get 4 choices. Two of them are "Humanities" and "Social Science." "Christian Interest" books could conceivably be put under either one of those headings. If you select one of the subjects, you'll get a page which includes several topics; however, that still represents a huge number and variety of topics of ebooks, which would take an enormous amount of time to sort through. For this sale, I suggest that you find a "search" box and plug in different key words that might bring up books that you're interested in--like, "Jesus," "Christ," "Bible," "Church" . . . I think that you get the idea.

One problem that I need to mention, but it might iron itself out--the site keeps reverting to the British website, on me, even though it asked me which country that I wanted, and I said, the "United States." There are other link problems. If you face any, type in the address bar simply "palgrave.com" (without the quotation marks).

The coupon code is PCW18E, in case you need it, and that code's also prominently displayed on the sale pages.

I've got my eye on The Erosion of Biblical Certainty: Battles over Authority and Interpretation in America, by Michael J. Lee. The Amazon Kindle is $79.20 at this moment. So, the savings is a smooth 81%.

Ligonier's $5 Friday Sale Starts Early; Much Greater Number of Resources than Usual.

Ligonier Ministries has a "$5 Friday" sale each Friday. I'm on their mailing list, and got an email from them today which notified members on their mailing list that 1) their $5 Friday" sale for this week already has started, and 2) there are many more resources this week than usual--they say 75 of them.

They are calling their sale this week a "Black Friday" sale.

The sale includes hardcover books, paperback books, book bundles, digital downloads, ebooks and audiobooks, study guides, CDs, and even DVDs.

As a personal aside, what savings that you can get in flat-price sales can range all the way from "meh" to fantastic. The deals on items that are usually priced closer to whatever the flat-price is are "meh;" on the other hand, deals on items that are usually priced much higher than the flat-price are the better deals. If you are a deal-hunter, look for items that are regularly priced the highest.

Ligonier Ministries is a Reformed (think of "reform" as it is used in "Reformation Movement") organization. They are heavily Calvinistic, although they also respect Martin Luther's contribution to the Protestant Reformation.

If you're interested in this sale, point your browser to this website to find out more about the sale, including to see all of the resources in this sale. If you would like to see the materials, sorted by format, go to this webpage.

A suggestion for you from the current Palgrave sale . . . .

It's quite a bit more down to earth than probably most other titles in the sale. Here's Palgrave's description of the book:
The Palgrave Handbook of Radical Theology is the definitive guide to radical theology and the commencement for new directions in that field. For the first time, radical theology is addressed and assessed in a single, comprehensive volume, including introductory and historical essays for the beginner, essays on major figures and their thought, and shorter articles on various themes, concepts, and related topics. This book is a seminal work for the radical theology movement. It clarifies origins and demonstrates the exigency and utility of current figures and issues. A useful and essential guide for newcomers and veterans in the field, this volume serves as both a reference work and an introduction to omitted or forgotten topics within contemporary discussions.

I don't consider the theology all that radical. I've certainly seen examples of theology much more radical than what this book covers. And, the book is significantly easier to read than most.

The book is The Palgrave Handbook of Radical Theology. The editors are Christopher D. Rodkey and Jordan E. Miller.

This is one of the $15 books in the sale. The price at Amazon for the Kindle is $207.27!

The link to the book at Palgrave.

In addition to the preview offered on the Palgrave, you might want to check out the more substantial Google Play preview, located here.

Yes, Palgrave does participate (I'm not sure that that is the correct word) in O.A. (Open Access).

I rarely point out individual O.A. publishers anymore, because so many publishers are into it now. What I need to find is a master list of O.A. publishers. In fact, I think that I have one listed under some bookmark somewhere. I'll look for it. I'm still looking for a real good search engine for O.A. books. The ones that I have found are inadequate.

Anyone can see the benefit of O.A. to book readers, but I'm still fuzzy about what benefit it is to the authors. If I'm not mistaken, it is they who have to pony up the money to publish the books, and then they get zero in monetary returns.
