Well, with the "Light" plan you also get the "member price" for books that you purchase without using credits. The member price is 30% off the regular price.

Were the "First in a Series" sale for members only? Or the Audible Great Courses sale? I can't remember.

I don't remember about the First in a Series sale, but LLers could take advantage of the the Audible Great Courses sale.

Thanks for mentioning the members only pricing. I rarely, if ever, used it, so I didn't think about that.

I'm beginning to think that the key difference between the LL membership and the premium ones can be summed up in one word: credits. LLers cannot take advantage of the type of promo/sale that involves credits. They can take advantage of the type of promo/sale that does not involve credits. At least that's a good rule of thumb.

Are you sure that's true? One of the benefits of maintaining LL is to preserve credits, so I'd find it very odd if Audible did not included LL members in promos designed to get people to spend credits.

No, I'm not sure of it--I've been wrong before, and it seems like when I post on Mobileread it's when I am the most. ha.

Someone wrote that if you cancel your premium (Silver, Gold, Platinum, Uranium, whatever) membership, the only way that you can keep unused credits is to get the LL membership. However, once you use those, you have no way to buy any, nor are you automatically given them periodically like you are on the premium plans. So, that's an exception, then, to the general rule. Can you think of any others?

That prompts the question in my mind of how those credits carried over from a premium membership can be used once you have the LL membership. I suppose that you can use them just like you did (would have) under a premium plan (including spending them on a promotion)? Then, when they run out, they run out? I dunno.

Of course, the only way to resolve this is to get tubemonkey to weigh in. Then we'll have the definitive answer(s) and nothing will be left to be said. ha.

Some of the $4.95/fixed price sales have been "member only". And some of the buy 4 get $10 require credits, so are limited to members (others are not).

However, Whispersync deals and Deal of the Day require no membership whatsoever (and can be purchased on the Amazon site or the Audible site, although Amazon does not show you the Audible deal of the day on their site - they tried at least once and had the wrong book up in their promo box; I haven't seen in since).

Sometimes you get a low-price special sale when you access your library; no membership required (that I know of), but you must be on the Audible page to see these limited time/random sales.

The $10 credit from third parties never have required a membership (although I believe one was limited to "new members", a while back).

As others have said, the big draw of LL is the credit sales (which you sometimes don't get access to, anyway), the member pricing and keeping existing credits when you cancel your subscription.

I think that both of the above are rare. I've been an LL member for probably 6 or 7 years and do not remember being locked out of the above promotions. I usually, if not always, took advantage of both promotions whenever they came around.

This is great to know! I rarely access my library, and am only vaguely aware that Audible did this (I think that I got an offer one time, and took advantage of it; if so, I haven't thought any more about it since).

Suggestion to Mobilereaders: if the above interests you, set the webpage that you get on startup of your browser to your Audible library page, so that you frequently see it, automatically. You can do that by going under something like "Tools," under something like "Settings," in your browser. The URL is going to be www.Audible.com/lib. Audible automatically recognizes me, so I do not have to log in (I don't know what I did to get it that way) when I navigate to that webpage. To have the webpage appear even more frequently, set your browser, if it allows it, to show that webpage each time that you open a new tab, too.

As an LL member, you cannot use credits (except, apparently, when you have carried them over from a premium plan that you have cancelled). Therefore, you cannot buy them.

I just clicked on your link above, to Audible.com/lib. It took me to MY library too. I have no account whatsoever, except that I have an amazon account. I think it knows me by cookies on my machine. It will probably recognize most of you, the same way.

I do have a LIBRARY, just no account. I've gotten a number of free audible books, but never yet paid for one. So I guess that's an account, but it's not a LL or a paid account, or what you've been discussing lately.

(...Actually... I think I picked up a $10 coupon from one of the offers somebody posted. So I bought several books with that, and then paid a few dollars to make up the difference. So I guess I *have* bought a wee bit from them! To be strictly honest here.

The book is Lunch with Charlotte, by Leon Berger. It's made up of information given to the author over a 25 year period, by a survivor of the Holocaust.

Thanks to a big (percentage) markdown on the price of the ebook, the Whispersync deal can be yours for only $1.99. The math: the ebook is free at the moment, and the Whispersync audio is regularly priced at $1.99. So, the total is $1.99.

Readers really seem to like the ebook, as it is very highly rated--4.6 stars at Amazon (but from only 16 reviews at the present moment); it has 29 ratings at GoodReads, with an average rating of 4.62!. The audio is rated only slightly less, at 4.4 (but that's from only 5 reviews).

It's a big book (404 pages), so there is a long audio (just short of 10 hours long).

Oh, you might be interested in knowing that the non-Whispersync'd audio at Audible is $19.99. So, this Whispersync deal represents a huge savings, even if you're just interested in the audiobook.
