Have you tried the Bulk mode Metadata Eder : Search and replace tab?

1) Use the search to find
2) select similar
3)Bulk metadata edit: Search and replace the group

Repeat from 2 until dry

Yes, I use this method - it needs so much clicks.

To clear my idea: in Mp3tag I can simply use (and save it!) a (similar, fiction) action:

Field: %title%
Value: %album% %tracknumber%. %title%

This like very simple, very clear, but powerful action (and to save it) is not possible now in Calibre.

(I have ~70 action complex in Mp3tag. All, what I need, usually can do in some seconds.)

Other idea: import anything (comments, too; any custom metadata, too) from csv or Excel table +files + covers by same file name. Discussions are through years, solution is no.

I am sure: if to solve this, users of Calibre will grew up 3×, as minimum. Not all people like to spent 15-20 hours /1,000 books to import database into Calibre.

Yes, you are right, I can save a replace action. But, as I wrote, because of the not very user friendly complexity of the replacer interface, I can do it only in 4-5 steps - but I can not save a group of actions, as in Mp3tag.

Is there any way to have my exported files have their "Custom Icon" set to be the book's cover?

I'm on a Mac, so this is intended to be such that I can see the covers in the Finder. Interested if it is possible anywhere, because that might be a starting place too.

And for the sake of people stumbling across this, you can do the same on linux by installing `gnome-epub-thumbnailer`, (it actually does MOBI as well) which integrates into any gnome-derived desktop environment, e.g. gnome, unity, cinnamon, MATE...
It is most probably available in your distro repository.

Things i miss every day:

- Change Title and Author just with one click (pressing a key)
- A plugin that tries to find out if a title is written in english or german
- Delete a book without waiting (a process that doesnt stop me) or an extra field with yes/no that i can change with one klick (pressing a key) to delete a longer list later. (Mark for deleting)
- When i change more than one books i dream about a trigger to say "let the last values in the mask", when i substitute ten things i have to choose ten times the filed "title" again e.g.
- Set "title" at the start of the list of fields to change (with a trigger e.g.)
- Make a cover from a djvu

F2 on Author, Title (or any other) cell in book list - you can stay in cell edit mode by tabbing to the next cell,

Can't help on this - probably could be done with a PI, but why not use the Language metadata item, most commercial books should have it ?

Uncheck Show this... in



Maybe you can make use of the Mark Books feature - Ctrl+M to Mark/Unmark, Ctrl+Shift+M to show Marked books. You can add the Mark Books feature to toolbars and menus.

Select the bookS you want to have same metadata values (use the Mark Book function if it helps)

Edit Metadata will then use the Bulk Edit mode where entered values will be applied to all the bookS selected

Have you looked at the Import List plugin? It imports metadata from various lists including CSV files.

For Deleting i dont mean a warning, i mean that i cant use Calibre for some seconds while deleting. Now i mark and mark and mark (with STRG + Shift) and delete. But one fault not pressing STRG and the list is gone.

I have now 190.000 documents from www.archive.org from 1600-1900 and everything slows down while i order, delete, correct all my books.

Why would you want another key just to edit those two columns?

Calibre removes books to the recycle bin, and in doing so it creates temporary folders in the library and its those that get moved to the recycle bin - so there is quite a lot of IO when a book is removed. There is no 'permanent delete' option, unfortunately. What sort of device is your library on.

Use the Mark Books (Ctrl+M) feature - they will 'stick' within a session until you clear them - they are indicated by a gold stickpin icon at the extreme left



Now show Mark Books (Ctrl+Shift+M) and select them (Ctrl+A)



Now you can mass delete, do mass metadata edits etc.

I suggest you create two more physical libraries - Final and WorkBench.

Move a group of books (say 500) from the Current library to WorkBench. Do the ordering, metadata editing, deleting in WorkBench; when that is done Move all the books in the Workbench library to the Final library - use the Copy to Library option in the book list right click menu . . . repeat on the next 500 et cetera.

This may also alleviate your slow deleting issue
