When I first looked at the number of pages on the sony (580) I was thinking it would take forever to read, but it actually went really quickly. It seemed shorter than some books I've read of only 220 pages

The wikipedia definition of vogon

Vogons are described as mindlessly bureaucratic, aggressive, having "as much sex appeal as a road accident" and the writers of "the third worst poetry in the universe".

You guys leave me no choice i just have to finish this book, look at the knowledge i am missing out on ...

It was a radio series before it was a book. Recordings of the original broadcasts (also by Douglas Adams) may be available at your local library.

I hope you enjoy it. Adams was my favorite writer of sci-fi humor. The later BBC television series, despite the super-cheesy special effects, was also a hoot, though I didn't care for the Disney movie so much. For one thing, they made the unpardonable sin of making Marvin the Paranoid Android look cute. Even worse: Disney-cute. A perpetual complainer with a brain the size of a planet who is confined by circumstances to doing menial labor shouldn't look cute.

I just started "The Good, Bad and the Undead" by Kim Harrison. I got the first as a freebie, and got this one for $1.99 (still available). I didn't love the first one, but with the 1.99 price I figured I'd give the second one a shot. I'm still struggling with it, but it's early yet.

A few weeks ago, I used a Kobobooks discount offer to get The Best Australian Essays 2010 for under
$USD 10. I read the first couple yesterday; one on the problem of raging fires in Victoria was kind of scary.

I liked it better than the previous books in the series; I started to get annoyed with Harrry's moaning and self-pity and there was considerably less of that in this book.

Next up is the first in the Hamish MacBeth series Death of a Gossip by MC Beaton.
Love Dresden, all of them, but haven't started any of M.C. Beaton yet. I have both series waiting for me, though... when I get around to them!

I was introduced to Kim Harrison's series with an omnibus of the first three from Mystery Guild. Fell in love and bought the rest in ebook. There are some slow parts, but I really enjoy the series.

I finished my "goal" (which was to read what I had listed by the end of Christmas Day) and threw "Christmas Stalkings" edited by Charlotte MacLeod in there, too. Now I'm on to the Lady Julia Gray bundle, by Deanna Raybourn. It contains the first three books in the series. I still think that first book has one of the best first lines ever:

"To say that I met Nicholas Brisbane over my husband's dead body is not entirely accurate. Edward, it should be noted, was still twitching on the floor."

How can you not love that?? *girn*

I like Agatha Raisin -- the latest Audio is on my TBR pile -- but I couldn't get into Hamish at all.

I have about 15 more pages to go but MacBeth isn't introduced as a nice and likeable person. He's very reserved somehow, although that is probably because the story is not that often told from his point of view. I was surprised (but not put off) by the regular swearing.

I don't know if I liked it or not but since the books aren't long I will probably give the next in the series a go too.

Up next is the first in James Patterson's Women's Murder Club 1st to Die.

Let me know how it goes. I heard nothing but raaaave reviews of the first one, but I thought it was a little slow and the character(s) did nothing for me. So I never got the second one. Let me know if it's worth the 2 bucks.

I am hopping between three books at the moment, all with the same theme.

Defending Sacred Ground by Alex Collier.
The Gods of Eden by William Bramley
The Book of the Damned by Charles Fort

I appear to have gone all metaphysical!!!

Cheers
