I'll take the win without singing.
Though I have a new idea. I am taking a survey of pretty much everyone I know.
Quick question: Did you have a job before age 26? Or were you still totally dependent on at least one of your parents?
And if you would like to share jobs you had only because you needed it, please do.

My lazy daughter turned 26 last week and has never really tried to get a job. Excluding getting rejected by the Navy. (She kept standing the recruiter up with BS excuses.

Well, what does your daughter do?

I was still a university student at 26, so partly dependent on my parents, but I had been working all kinds of jobs part time for years, because my parents didn't give me enough to live on. We had a so-called "students' service" at our local job center; both private people and local companies would advertise temporary jobs there, so I helped people moving house, redecorating flats and houses, helping out on construction sites and the like. I also worked at McDonalds for two years (fine) and at Pizza Hut for six weeks (hell). I also worked at a fruit and vegetables stand at the local farmers' market for about a year and a half.

I would say that not being stuck at university all the time but meeting real people doing real things has helped me immensely.

OTOH, if I imagine my parents would have asked around everywhere trying to get me to do something, I would probably have been furious, so I guess you're in a lose-lose-situation here.
