A cup of dried soy beans to throw at the Devil/Evil One at the neighborhood Shinto Shrine. It's the way the Chinese New Year is celebrated in Japan.

My mother gained 13kg after her first child, 5 or 7 year later she had a stillborn, after that giving birth to me was a mortal risk and she went for it. Today my brother and I abandoned her. My parents moved to Israel when they were old and my mother was disabled. They did it for us to have better future and to be with us in future, because they knew we would move anyway and they wanted to be near.
I am in the UK, my brother and his family are in Canada. My parents are alone in Israel. Despite everything, we are everything for them, we are their life. The only thing my mother and father regret is not having one more child. My mother is all about children. She loves!!! my wife. When she realised I have married my angel, she got another daughter for herself, one she longed to have all her life (it didn’t work as well with my brother’s wife because she belives my brother is not happy with his wife). I mean my wife, 8 years older, divorced, 5000km from Israel, stole me from my mother's house forever and supporting me in not having children (mother never believe me when I told her that I won’t have kids since I was 19 years old)! Her son is happy? That's it. That's all that matters.

I am too selfish to have kids. I have not grown up myself yet. I have been very open about it with my future wife (just an online friend back then) about it when I realised she feels something odd towards me. I thought it would scare her off, because I am used to think that women want kids. Like, all women. Examples? Everybody around me. My parents for one, my brother too. He doesn’t understand why live at all if you don’t want to have children. He has got 3 daughters.
However, I am all against traditions of the 'supposed to do,' kind.
Even when I was 10 years old, I could not grasp why my brother asks my parents permission to marry. I didn't even know how babies are made or that males and females have different body parts in trousers, but I was questioning this. I thought: my brother have to live with his wife, not my parents...
I was fighting any 'supposed to do,' from childhood. I guess it was one of the reasons why I would not survive in the xUSSR. Why should I join boyscouts (pioneers)? I don't see anything interesting about it. You must! Why should I come every Wednesday and clean up streets from rubbish or snow for free? You must! Why should I join Komsomol???? I don't like anything about the party! Shhhhhh. You must, or else....you won't be admitted to the University, you won't get job, you won't...
You have to finish University, you must have a degree.
You have to marry when you are 21-23.
You have to marry Jewish girl.
You have to have children.

I have studied in two Universities. Haven't finish either. I don't have a degree!
I married at 30.
I, living in Israel, married a non-Jewish "girl"
I married for the first and the last time(here I am traditionalist ) on a woman older than me, who is a "second hand" divorced woman. Who doesn't want to have children.

Despicable.

I still have arguments with my parents when we chat on Skype about "we are supposed to do it" Father, mother you are not supposed to do anything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "ARGHHHHH....."
We just agree to disagree

One of the reason why I like to live in the UK.
There almost no 'supposed to do' over here. At least on working/middle class level.

I know my dad never wanted kids. They had four . I'm pretty sure my mom would do it all over again. When the youngest was born, the oldest was nearly 6. So she had a really hard time when we were little. But she says she loves it now we're all in our twenties. She definitely would do it all over again.

I think you're still supposed to have children. People expect you to settle down and have a family of your own at one point. Me, I don't really know whether I want kids. Maybe if I find the right guy. Babies are cute, until they start to cry. Then I'm glad I can give them back to their parents and walk out of the room

In my cup: chicken soup. Why does chicken soup taste so good when you're sick

Because I want to be a mother. It is that simple. I love kids. I love my nieces and nephews and my friends kids. I want to love my own kids. My dogs are great but they are not enough. I want little footsteps running around my house. I want the headaches and arguments that will come.

That is more important to me then a tea kettle or the freedom to do what I want because I don't have kids.

My parents assumed the four of us would go to college. Even when the teachers and specialists at the elementary school I attended told my parents I wouldn't go to college, they prepared me to go to college. I went, loved it, and went on for a PhD.

The PhD was highly unexpected. I struggle with math due to dysnumeria and dylsexia and dysgraphia (problems with numbers, letters, and spatial orientation, all important in math. The first class I taught as a graduate student was statistics.

I got married at 38, I needed to find the right man.

I was a virgin until that day. I wanted to save myself for the right guy.

I tend to do what I want, when I want, and how I want. Some of it seems conventional but many times the way I do it is not conventional.

And I want kids. I want young beings that I bring into this world to help shape and grow and teach. I know I will leave a legacy behind without kids but kids are a living legacy. I think I would be a great Mom and my husband a great Dad. If we can raise a couple of well adjusted, smart, independent, thoughtful beings that will help do good things then that is awesome.

For now I drink a pot of Rooibos Ginger and wonder how it is people communte to work daily without killing other people. It took me 45 minutes to go one mile. That is just silly.

Thanks ProfCrash!

I'm kind of exploring this forum - I've had an account for months but only recently started using it for real. Tea is one of the constants of my life, and there's always a steaming mug on my desk! I've been trying a lot of different teas, and they're all wonderful.

Prf Crash: just go for the babies and have fun trying.
Once that idea is in a wonans head; there's no turning back. That's my experience.
I married at 32 and I knew I would get one (saw a falling star once and wished it.). No
really! It didn't arrive but after 4 years though.
I was happy before I had a child and I'm happy now. Babys are a greater joy than you ever would have thought. Do you know, when my child was born; I recognized her. So funny.
We've tried to raise our daughter a responsible, caring person. And I like the idea of
continuity.
Good luck trying; it must be exciting for you.
