Perhaps in England when speaking formal English, that comment could be correct. In everyday speech and informal English, quote is often treated as a shortened form of quotation.

I have seldom seen a recent document where the correct singular form of thou is used. Ditto for the singular thy.

Thou, sirrah, are a pedant and thy post is fusty.
