It is persistent because it uses the hotfix as a part of the step, and even moreso if the hotfix is updated with the latest official version.

You would need to reinstall any software installed via a bin file after an update, though (including KUAL).

Correct, it would be because the OTA bin files were renamed. What you could do is factory reset, apply an official update through a reboot, and start over again. I ran into this issue myself as well.

To get the version you desire (can't be lower than what you currently have installed unless if you ran the downgrade script beforehand), you just take the update link and rename the version to the one you want.

Hello everyone,

I have a Kindle Paperwhite 3 (7th generation) running on 5.12.1, can I install the jailbreak?
It seems to me there are only exploits available for Paperwhite 3 on firmware 5.13.4 to 5.14.2.

So I was wondering:
- Can I use an exploit made for a more recent firmware?
- Is there anyway to upgrade my Kindle to the next firmware? (and not the last firmware which I understand is not compatible with the jailbreak)

I cannot for the life of me get python or python3 installed via ;log mrpi onto my PW4 (5.13.6). I've downloaded kindle-python-0.15.N-r18870.tar.xz from the snapshot thread. I've copied the bin files into the mrpackages directory, and the files just disappear. Is there a log file I can see what's going wrong?

It's in extensions/MRInstaller/log/mrinstaller.log

But if you're not actually seeing *anything* on screen, you have bigger problems.

(Like, why are you using ;log to install Python? Go through KUAL).

Well I had to use UYK to get KUAL installed first, I see stuff on screen but no log file is created and the files are removed. I've tried both methods now and nothing.

Hi, thank you VERY much for releasing this guide. Amazon has continuously REMOVING features (even the accessibility option to invert the display, which is even why I started searching for a way to jailbreak the device) and providing a way to jailbreak for free was very kind of you. I had no issues and I'm running completely fine.
I'd just like to know if anyone is aware of the possibility of downgrading a Kindle PW3 (2015 7th Gen.) from 5.13.7 to any version (preferably the earliest one, which according to this website is 5.4.2) through software only (I don't have soldering or any adjacent skills to do that).

Unfortunately I came to the realization that my device (PW3) never supported a native "dark mode" (even though it works perfectly fine on KOReader)...
This is quite upsetting but there's nothing I can do.

No idea what was wrong, I redownloaded the files, copied the new files and everything worked. Maybe a md5sum would be useful?

I'm now blocked because I can't factory reset either.

Hm, that is odd. Have you tried maybe using a Linux LiveCD (doesn't matter which one, anything that has a DE/WM will do, would recommend anything Ubuntu or Pop!OS since it's the easiest) to try make the files? And if that doesn't help, I'm suspecting that the eMMC inside your device is dead and thus is mounted as read only, in that case an eMMC replacement has to be done (not easy, you'd have to have experience in hot air reworking/reballing chips, alongside some equipment.)

Was able to upgrade from 5.14.1.1 to 5.14.2 after jailbreak by re-applying the hotfix after the upgrade. Cool.
