worked like a charm.... i had been trying other programs to mount the image.... this one worked perfectly. thanks for everyones help

Image restore


Hy all,
I'm helping a frend of mine that had a Kobo Glo HD frozen. I'm from Italy.

At the moment it's showing a book cover and a little windows that says it's OFF.
No reset procedure are effective, it only lights up the power button led and also flashes it then stops. The battery is good.

I'm wondering that it cannot boot from the SD card.

So I bought an USB to Serial dongle and will try to read the boot console messages ... it will arrive thursday.

In the meantime I used the Memory Upgrade Mod Guide to copy on my PC an Image of the original SD card that I think could be corrupted. Just for backup.
I bought also a new SD card and I woud try to write a new fresh Image onto it and try the boot from.

Coul you please point me to a updated Image for the italian Kobo Glo HD?

PM sent with the image for a Glo HD. But, you posted in the Glo thread which, even though you named the Glo HD, might mean I was wrong.

The image is a generic image. Kobo makes no difference between the devices around the world.

And how do you know the battery is OK? The behaviour of the power LED matches that of a battery with no charge. Have you charged it?

I measured more than 4 volts on the battery. I also left the kobo connected to a USB wall charger for hours.

I will try the image on the new SD and I will report here.

Good write but no result
Hi,
The SD card write went ok.
But on the Kobo, no result.

Here is the situation:
1. on the screen: <see attached photo>, the box says 'Spento' , italian for 'OFF'.
2. 4.19V from TP2 and GND (near the battery connector)
3. pressing the reset button, no reaction
4. pressing the reset button and holding it for more than 40 sec, no reaction
5. pressing the power button, no reaction
6. pressing the power button and holding it for 4 sec, the red led lights on for one or two sec then it flashes for few secs then the screen lights goes on, and then stays there, no change on the screen. It stay with screen light on, pressing reset button lights on the red led that also flashes and then again screen light on and red led off.
Connected to the PC (windows 7) it is not recognized.

I'm stopping here, waiting for the serial interface hoping to see the console log.

Sorry, but the photo shows that it is a broken screen. The lines at the bottom show the substrate has been broken somehow. The only fix is to replace the screen. These aren't readily available and aren't cheap.
