Its performance was defintely diminished.

Well, since customer service blew me off, I'm just going to return mine and order a new one. And if that does it as well, return that and not order a new one.

But I'm not an engineer
The sun emits a lot of heat and it can be transmittted by radiation. Black body absorbs a lot more incoming radiation than white body. Carbon in its graphite form is found to absorb about 97% of all radiation.

Since there are more reports on the graphite colored kindle to exhibit the slow page turns problems under sunlight, it does appear that the black coated kindle tend to absorb more heat. If that is the case, the kindle might have an overall heat dissipation problem and the graphite colored exterior just aggravates the effect.

Problem solved??

Kindle CS emailed me about the preview version of 3.0.2, and I took a hairdryer to my kindle, first before the update to make sure it was still slow (it was) and then i upgraded and used my hairdryer... no slowdown! Download the new version and let me know if it worked for you guys.

This thread seemed interesting but after heavy use on my Kindle 3 I notice no decreased system preformance even through books over a thousand pages.

Seems to be typeface related as well

Hi guys

I've had my k3 for 2 weeks.
I'm not getting a slowed down page turn as such ... it is delayed.

What I mean is that I'm not seeing the screen stay black longer sometimes than others ... what I am seeing is the k3 page turn not happen for perhaps 2-3 seconds after the button is pressed.

I have noted that if I have the smallest font ... regardless of typeface, the delay is the usual circa 1sec after button press. If I have any of the larger fonts and I have chosen condensed ... the delay is a lot longer ... perhaps 3 seconds ... and it's really annoying.

I tried a restart of reading this thread and in a few seconds of testing with different typefaces and fonts the speed is now consisitently circa 1 sec (although back page turns are definitely slightly slower than forward ones).

It will be interesting to see how long it takes for things to slow down again.

The kindle is on 3.02.

Cheers

Paul.

Hi Paul. I've had my Kindle for 5 days and just experienced the same issue as you...delayed (not slow) page turns only on condensed typeface of size 4 or higher. A restart fixed my issue too. I'm curious, did your issue ever crop up again? Thanks.

I had a bit of a mare trying to get a kindle that didn't have dodgy hinge, scratched screen or excessive ghosting. My wife's was perfect.
I now have a perfect one myself and although I think there will always be the odd slow down as with most 'computers', it is very minor. I haven't updated from 3.0.2 to 3.0.3.

Wife and I both loving them.

I have just got a Galaxy Tab ... which I also love, but it is the Kindle that gets the most use.

Paul.
