So, because 505 doesn't support justified EPUBs one orders K3, which has no EPUB support whatsoever.
Did I miss something? |

I loaded my first library books on my new 505 today, and was quite pleased with how well they formatted; I think they look better without justification myself. The small font size is big enough to read comfortably, whereas medium would mean too much page turning.

I also find it highly debateable whether epub actually has a large advantage over other formats for an end-user. I have lately been buying Amazon books and converting these to LRF due to the fact that their website and pricing is superior to what is offered by competitors. I would welcome an open non DRM-protected standard in ebook publishing; however, I am not convinced that the Adobe approach to DRM-protection with epub files is the way forward. |

I am still confused. The only reasons you've mentioned in the first post, were:
" I had hoped that Sony would provide better support for PDFs and justified ePubs" Now you say that EPUB don't matter. (obviously if they would, you shouldn't have chosen K3, since it has NO epub support) And that you were converting books to LRF. What does matter then? PDFs? Was there something wrong with LRF support? What's the real "reason" to switch? Pearl screen? Well, that's a valid reason, however I don't get why would anyone mention firmware in this context. Not to mention Sony is about to release 2 readers with Pearl screen (350/650). |

I will wait to see what Sony comes out with... I would hate to loose the ability to move my books from reader to reader... (I don't think I can move the books that I have purchased to, say, a K3)...
So, for now at least, Sony has a captive customer... but I am tired of my 600... I want the quality of screen/reading that my wife is enjoying with her 505... |

Yes, very much so, Sony discontinued LRF. Look, part of the reason is, admittedly, to buy a new gadget and stop bothering converting file formats. Amazon used to be my favourite port-of-call for pBooks and I cannot fault their selection of ebooks. I shall keep my 505 for the time being since it is a very well-made piece of kit. However, the simplicity of using the Kindle store, I am based in New Zealand, and have content transferred via Wi-Fi appeals to my encroaching laziness. BTW, I would have moved away from Sony earlier without the great PRS+ |

Sony? - Have a look a the praise I have given my PRS-505 in the past. Amazon? - Look at the start of this thread, where I clearly take a critical approach. Please let us move on. The Sony was great for a time but it seems this has now passed and the new models will apperently be also hampered by a reflective touchscreen overlay. |

No, Sony discontinued LRX. LRF still exists in ever Sony Reader. LRX is the DRMed flavor of LRF and LRX has now gone by the wayside. Plus, LRX was rather poorly formatted (yes, that was Sony's fault) and there was nothing you could do about it.

My suggestion is that if you have not yet ordered a K3 or bought a K3, wait and see what Sony does as we will find out sometime in September and the new readers will be out sometime in October. That is not too long to wait to make the choice that is best based on full information.

Hold your horses!
Well what can I say. I have just received the Kindle and I am a tad disappointed with the display. The build quality of the device is very good and much better than expected. However, I struggle to find perceivable improvement to the screen.
I shall post this again as a new thread to let people know that they may better wait for Sony's new releases. Mea culpa - I know some of you out there were saying that one should wait. |

Yes, one should wait. Because if the rumors are true, then Sony may be better then the K3. But we won't know that until the announcement is made and we get concrete proof. The problem is that if you've ordered a k3 now and you shortly get it, you may find your 30-day return window gone before Sony releases the new readers. So there really won't be an opportunity to properly decide. This is why I say wait to even place an order for the K3 until enough is known about the new Sony. Because if the main reason for ordering a K3 is the new Pearl screen, then Sony may have Pearl as well.

Can you post screenshots of the Kindle 3 screen and the 505 screen? I'd like to see the difference.
