I too got an email notice today that my buywise membership and all my magazine subscripts have been refunded on a pro-rated basis. I am happy with this outcome; I would be happier if I could re-download my two dozen orphaned books it will not let me access anymore, but at least now I can wash my hands of them and be done. I am sad; I got very into Fictionwise over the years and spent a lot of money on books. It really feels like the end of an era. But I don't want to be locked into subscriptions for something which may not be around for long...

Did you ask for the magazine subscription rebates? I'd like to keep my subscriptions until they run out if possible. I'm not willing to pay what Amazon/Sony charge for them. And FW gives you the magazine in multiformat instead of DRM'd.

I did ask for the rebate. At first they didn't want to because they said the magazines were still running, but I was very nervous since there was still a year and a half on my subscription. I just wanted to end everything and be done with them.

Sounds like I better find a way to spend the $25 I have in micropay and then ask for my own refund. I haven't spent a dime at fictionwise since before the agency changes.

I like both LRF & Epub books. However, I took all of my LRF Multiformatted books & converted them to Epubs for when FW is no more so that I can still have my books.

I had a Micropay balance of $1.16. When I purchased the magazine I normally get, I found that they applied the balance of the Micropay to the purchase before charging the remainder to the credit card.

I was wondering how I was going to get the balance to zero, now it is zero and I do not have that concern.

I just got rid of the last $30 that was in my Micropay - I think my subscription must have expired because I didn't get any additional Micropay. So 6 years and 530 books later, it is goodbye to Fictionwise.

So long and thanks for all the books!

I wasn't thinking about the Micropay I hadn't used till I noticed a week ago that none of my favorite authors' books were for sale there, and at least four of them had new titles out. What really got to me was the fact that all the old titles that Fictionwise used to carry had mysteriously vanished along with most of the authors. That was more than handwriting on the wall, that was a billboard on the highway. I found two books I could get with the rest of my Micropay and now am done, it's a shame, I liked Fictionwise.

You're probably looking for 'Agency 5' titles, FW lost those back in April when agency pricing went into effect. Will they get them back? To do so they'd have to eliminate discounts (basically they have) and set up things to charge sales tax everywhere one of the 'Agency 5' have a business presence. If B&N really does plan to kill them off they probably won't bother with getting the tax stuff set up.

Add me to the list of folks that used Fictionwise as the go-to store for ebooks for a decade.

Damn, I'll sure miss them.

I'll miss them as a book buyer--but even more as a writer. They were the best-selling outlet for e-reads books, which is a great publisher of backlist titles, including mine. But sales are dropping there, as customers get fed up with the disappearance of the agency publisher books, and just leave.

My wife and I purchased a thousand books at least and probably more there over the last decade. It is sad to see it ending. Their new pricing just isn't very competitive. We only have a couple of months left on Buywise and once that is gone I will probably move my business to B&N directly for the big titles and the smaller independents for the rest.
