I've always written short stories and have poems that are published out there, but never really had a story in my head that could become a novel until recently. For the last 5 years I have been puttering (very slowly) at my first novel. I got an idea in my head that was not like anything I had read and it was a story I would be drawn to to see how it plays out. I have about 4 or 5 chapters on the go and know that if I could dedicate some time to it, I could pull out a really nice little YA book (I am not aiming for instant classic, just a fun story to read)

The thing that keeps me from looking at is as a real novel is that I don't want to mess around with publishers. I'm really writing it for me and have recently thought that if I ever finish it, I might just publish it under a creative commons license just to share the story with the world.

Guess time will tell how it plays out. In 20 years I could be saying "this little 300 page book took me 20 years to write!" lol I dolove the idea of National Novel Wiritng month...hmm, maybe I need to give it a go and see if I can finish this puppy!
