Update
I listened to the program, JSWolf suggested, this morning, when I came home from work.. I have wanted a smoke so many times during the day, and I have allowed myself to go and get one (they're still sitting here in the packet).. When I get to the packet, I ask myself if I want one, and then go "NAH!" and walk away...
I do not dare throw them out... Having them there gives me choices/options. I think it was time... I hadn't really thought about it, but I didn't smoke on my way home in the car this morning (I always have at least 2) |

You are doing brilliantly - I think seeing not smoking as lots of decisions, decisions that have to be made many times a day, is really positive, but that's the tough bit. After all, if it was a once and for all easy decision we would all stop. Every time you make that decision it's a victory for you. And apart from having these victories, what else is good about not smoking?

24 hours! I'm really proud of me
![]() I'm on night shifts at the moment, and last night was my first smoke free workday, although the smokes were in my bag, ready and willing, should I need them. I didn't, even though it felt really weird not having one with my coffee this morning. Coming home this morning was a completely different matter... I walked into the house, and it stunk! It was unbelievable... Did it always smell this bad? I walked into my office, getting ready for my session on the computer... Have I got everything? No, something is missing - there's a huge empty corner on my desk... OK, that's for my ashtray, and I don't need that... All I need is my cup of coffee... I keep on reaching out for something, but there's nothing to grab.. I wonder how long this weird feeling of something missing is going to last? Sometimes it feels like I'm going to have a panic attack, but the feeling is gone within a minute. Onto the next 24 hours. |

CONGRATS!!!
(If I had karma left to give at the moment I would) I remember my first 24 hours. Drink lots of water. This will stop you from getting fat while you are quitting. Exercise also helps fight the urge. |

The water! Yes, I found I was extremely thirsty yesterday afternoon and evening, and thought I'd be peeing all night, but I didn't, so my body must have needed the water.

Bathing challenged people make me gag at the best of times... ![]() I've given up smoking a couple of times before for 2 years each time. The reason I started again was because I split with my respective husbands and started going to pubs and clubs. I found I couldn't breathe in such a smoke filled room, and the only thing that made it better was, if I smoked myself. Last time I gave up was in 1988. This time things should be as lot easier... I'm too old to go to pubs and clubs and you can't smoke anywhere anyway these days ![]() |

Give Me a Reason to Start Smoking
Sorry, the world is in a mess. The Gulf of Mexico will soon be deader than the Dead Sea. My stocks are tanking faster than the Exxon Valdez. What recourse does an average person have, other than to grab a cigarette in response to a life most horrible? I've been trying to obtain a copy of "Smoking: Psychology and Pharmacology" by Heather Ashton-
http://www.amazon.com/Smoking-Psycho.../dp/0422777102 Because the hardest thing in life is not giving up smoking, but getting your partner to quit! So, if you can't beat 'em, then join them. I will start smoking, each day killing myself, until my significant other sees that I can hurt myself worse than her, all in the name of love. ![]() ![]() Will reverse psychology work, and if so, can I patent the technique?
