I noticed this in 2.5, but it rarely happened (say, one in 50 reboots), but it seems to be happening more frequently in the 2.6 version.

A reboot corrects it, but still...
I think there is a delay as the firmware check battery status. I've never seen the icons fail to register eventually.

I've seen the delay before, and it's not that. I mean that the icons never appear at all.

The delay usually shows the icons, dimmed, then as it figures out the battery status, the battery icon will darken. The other two may or may not darken depending where I on the iLiad.

In my case, the icons never appear - dimmed or darkened - even after about an hour after reboot.

It happened to me several times, and after a reset, they are all back again.

It's on page 18 but... try to read it with your PC. Page 18 contains a CRAZY and completely useless image amost-unloadable!
Let's say the official user manual acts as a crash-test for PDF viewing with iLiad

New problem: pdf viewer has a problem to handle pdf files in landscape orientation. -> pdf viewer cuts pages, so something is missing on screen, 1,2 cm or so on the buttom of screen is unused.
This is a 2.6 bug; it worked before.

[Edit] This bug was solved in v2.6.1.
