No SD card = fail.

Since they have two pricing points based on memory size it must not have an expansion slot, everyone would just buy the 4gb and a memory card $150 for 4gb???

I was hoping this device would come out and spank my DR1000S but that is not the case. Irex 3 - Competition 0. Now I'll just have to have dreams of make out sessions with that HP Slate until the specs and price are released, don't leave me hanging HP that device looks Sa-weet

You mean like that miserable failure of a device that Amazon sell, with no memory card?

This looks highly promising. I feared it was going to weigh in closer to $1000, which would probably have put it out of my price range. Having a non 3G option is great - one of the things I learned from the Kindle (but knew in advance, really) is that I absolutely do not care about wireless connectivity, especially if it's only going to work and be free in one country anyway!

Looking at the comments over on engadget, there's a massive amount of ignorance. Lots of people seem unable to conceive the need for a device like this. I'm looking at the huge pile of paper currently cluttering my desk and filling my bag...and thinking "roll on April!"

As long as there's some straightforward way of getting files onto the device (eg USB file transfer) I don't personally see it as a big deal. After all, today, many people carry around USB memory drives; it's really no different.

Agreed. They're much more common than SD cards anyway, surely?

If its USB with "OTA" support than using a USB drive would be a nice bonus. They are easier to carry than SD cards.

This is the only device in the E-book Reader Matrix Larger Devices table with 8 grey scales. This is a strange choice for such an expensive device, so there must be a technical reason. The Marvell ARMADA 166E has "Up to 1600x1200 display resolution support", but perhaps performance is degraded with 16 grey scales. Or perhaps the flexible backplane was not up to controlling 16 grey scales.

isnt that an SD slot next to the USB?

This video seems to answer the question. The "home" button is on the top right... the bottom it is a power on/off slide switch. I'm pretty sure there is no expandable memory slot on these things... which is a bit of a shame but not a deal killer.

It would be great if it supports USB flash drives.
