Is there some way to tell from the Account page that you have exceeded your quota of six (or less) share devices for a particular book? If it's the first six to be registered, how can you tell which was registered last, and therefore can't share?
It would have to be managed at the book level rather than the device level...

For that magic, you'll have to ask Amazon 'cuz I don't know.

OK. I can see how the limitation can be on the book level rather than the device level. I still don't feel like I've got a good handle on this. How do you know when you've exceeded your permission to share a book? Do you just have to try to download it and be refused?

It's really just 3 computers, one is a dual boot with XP and Windows 7.

I'm posting from the Asus now. Just installed the release version of Windows 7 on it this past weekend.

I've never had the opportunity to try it as I only have one device (kindle2) registered. Though I may try out this PC software for use on my Acer netbook.

mm not really impressed by it. At the moment it seems pretty barebones, also, talking to my Australian friends they said you still have to pay $2 for the 'free' books?

What madness is that considering there is no whispernet involved, just internet. Must be a way around it?

Thanks. I was hoping I was just using the wrong PID to try to remove the DRM. Guess not. I'm hoping that someone will figure out how Amazon figures out the PID.

So in Windows, I can see the Kindle files (PRCs in My Documents), but we don't know how to extract PIDs from Kindle for PC.

On my iTouch, I have the PID thanks to iTunes UDID, but I have no way of getting AZW files from the iTouch onto a computer (either Windows or Linux---trying to get ifuse to work, it might not be able to show me the AZWs).

Did I get that right? We're all waiting for PIDs from Kindle for PC, and I'll continue looking for getting access to AZWs on iTouch.

Thanks for the info on this board.

"I don't think it is an issue with the fact you are using a virtual Windows 7 although, we cannot be sure at this time.

I would recommend that you uninstall Kindle for PC and install it again.

Also as you probably know, we're working on a Kindle for Mac application, which will be available in the next few months. So it is probably the fact the virtual Windows 7 is running on an iMac.

At this time, Kindle for PC is only available for customers with a personal computer running Windows XP, Windows Vista, or the new Windows 7.

I'm sorry for not being able to help further as we do not have support for Kindle for PC running on virtual machines."
So it appears the Kindle for PC application expects a "My Kindle Content" folder to exist or be created, and in the Virtual Machine the funky mapping of directories throws this off. In Parallels is there really a My Documents folder or is it virtualized and mapped to some "real" Mac folder structure? Even if you manually create the My Kindle Content folder within the VM the Kindle app still fails to download the content.

Unfortunately, it seems like you're correct with your last question.

I am curious if Amazon creates the same PID for your PC that the Mobipocket software creates. Have you tried that PID out?
