Well I just received the paperback "Suttree" by Cormac McCarthy in the mail (used from Amazon). It was not available as an ebook so I had no choice and I have no shame in the matter, so there!

It will likely be next on my list after I finish "The March" by Doctorow.

Lucky you. My set is also from the Folio Society, only it's bound in paper, not leather. I don't mind; it reads the same and still looks good on the shelf.

Forgive me, Kindle, for I have audiobooked! This weekend, I spent 5 hours, 46 minutes, and 31 seconds listening to an audiobook from audible.com when I couldn’t find the e-Book equivalent. It’s not my fault. I wanted you, Kindle, but Audible was willing to offer me something you wouldn’t provide.

Oh yeah, I could have let you read the audiobook to me, but I could tell from listening to your little whiny voice that your heart wasn’t in it. That’s why I set you aside and imported it to iTunes instead. iTunes understands audio. You don’t.

Please don’t be upset, Kindle. I still love you. It’s just that sometimes a man has needs.

I Still buy Dead Tree Books, even more now then i did before (bout 20 a month) except after I've finished reading them i cut them up and scan them in, making them my own LRF, My confession is i have become a charity shop addict every time i see one i can't resist checking out what books they have, 10 books for £1.50 is fantastic.

This morning I went to have my car lubed and oil changed. Guess what........there was a used book store right around the corner. I actually walked 1/2 block and entered it.

Oh my goodness. So I came away with a hardback, no less. It one of a series that BN came out with...."100 Fiendish Little Nightmares" Already have the 100 little mysteries, monsters, vampires, ghosts, etc.

I feel so...........guilty.........but deliciously satisfied.....
I loved that series of short stories.

Two timing my Kindle again!

Having bought and read the Second Series years ago, and finally coming to the conclusion that the set will never appear in ebook form in my lifetime, I just ordered paperback editions of the transcripts for the First, Third, and Fourth Series of Meeting of Minds by Steve Allen.

For those of you who may be too young to remember, Meeting of Minds was a round table talk show hosted by the late, great Steve Allen. Each show would feature four guests from various periods in history with very diverse opinions. A typical example: one of the second season guest panels consisted of Martin Luther, Voltaire, Plato, and Florence Nightingale. Another example: one of the panels of season three featured St. Augustine of Hippo, Empress Theodora, Thomas Jefferson, and Bertrand Russell. Needless to say, the guests rarely agreed with each other. What pretty much everyone did agree with who followed the show, however, was the painstaking research and attention to detail that was evident in each and every episode. This was not Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure.

I recently recovered from a two month long pbook BINGE.

Itʻs not my fault. I was trying to earn AR points (school thing), and they only have those books in wma format at the library, so I had to get the pbooks (also library--- I buy very little, Iʻm a user) I refuse to listen to someone else read stories to me... it changes the whole picture in my head.... JA Janceʻs Joanna Brady mysteries will forever be tainted with some ladyʻs voice

If you haven't tried Audible audiobooks on your Kindle, do. It's not so bad, really. If you really want to put some zest into your Kindle relationship, PRETEND you're listening in iTunes. Just a touch of fantasy can do the trick!

and you did, of course, transcribe the text as you went along in order to make your own e-version ?

Sometime in the future I may, but I'll have to plug in some ear buds. Those tinny speakers aren't hitting on much. I thought about doing it this time, especially since Kindle comes equipped with an Audible folder, but since I'm already in the habit of using my iPod for audiobooks, podcasts and other vocal materials, I didn't bother.

I must confess that I got 11 treebooks (sounds better than pbooks for some reason) today in the mail.

Due to the absence of any physical secondhand bookstores in my area, I spend many a night prowling an online auction site for 2nd hand books. I'm obsessively checking for new listings or doing keyword searches on my favorite authors.

I finally got lucky and bagged one I've been after for a long time - Peter F Hamilton. I actually stayed up babysitting my bids till the last minute and got 6 of his books. To make shipping more affordable I added some other books from the same seller.

My total haul includes:
Peter F Hamilton:
Pandora's Star
Judas Unchained
Fallen Dragon
The Naked God
The Neutronium Alchemist
The Reality Dysfunction

Arthur C Clarke:
2001 - A Space Odyssey (Hardback)
2010 - Odyssey Two
2061 - Odyssey Three
3001 - The Final Odyssey (Hardback)

Carl Sagan - Contact

I've had endless joy in unpacking, paging through and cataloging the new arrivals. There's just something about getting new books that amounts to complete tactile bliss.

I loved Sagan's Contact and Clarke's Space Odysseys (including the short story that started them all, "The Sentinel").

I'm not sure if I've read 3001. I'll have to check into that. I only recall the first three novels.
