Im convinced that i have the lemon unit, finished being built on a friday afternoon.
So disappointed been waiting for the uk release for ages. Have emailed Amazon awaiting reply.

1.The Next Page response ranges from good, delayed to 3-4 seconds to press again????? Surely this isn't how the device should operate normally. As i have said had a previous sony with e ink. No problems smooth when reading. This is just infuriating ??

2. trying to type anything into the keyboard is getting the same response, ie works or have to re type. despite hearing the button click??

3.Still have the lighting bolt symbol on battery??????
Had tried closing it down, 15 sec on the slide bar.

Anybody having similar experiences???

Ah, I see. I did use the search a couple of times. .... only because I wanted to find the same place on the Kindle as I was on the Sony cause I've been swapping back and forth to see what I'm liking and I'm finding I really do like the Kindle a lot.... but I still don't like DRM or propitiatory formats.

Hmmm. I haven't had the need to find out, but is there a way to do a HARD RESET and/or delete all the books an do HARD RESET?

Points 1 and 2 and the Kindle indexing your books. How many did you put on? I have the same bug with the power indicator.

Mine arrived today. First impressions:

* It looks nicer than I expected. It doesn't come across well in photos, IMO.
* I prefer the placement of the page turn buttons on my PRS-505, where both fall naturally under my thumb (I'm right-handed). With the Kindle, going to the previous page requires you to either read two-handed, or reach across. In a reversal of the usual situation, it seems left-handers have it better!
* I find the 5-way a bit awkward to use, though I'm sure I'll get used to it.
* Surprised to find that wikipedia lookup works from the UK, but it's slooow.
* I think the way my PRS-505 organises books is superior to the Kindle's flat list.
* I've successfully bought several books over 3G, and I can see that having access to the store while I'm out and about could lead to me spending a lot. But the two 'samples' I downloaded from Amazon were less successful. One consisted of the cover and a one-entry contents page: what's the point? The other, Dairoku Kikuchi's 'A History of the Japanese People' turned out to be 'A History of Art in Chaldaea and Assyria'. Good thing it cost nothing!

I'm happy so far.

I think I discovered the silver lining of having to wait a little longer; I'll know what to look out for when I get it

Still listed as 'Customs Clearance delay' -- from this morning.... Hope it won't get stuck for days.

I'm glad to hear this. I'm actually right-handed, but prefer to hold such device in my left hand, and with the others I've tried, my hand tense up at least a little bit too much for comfort because there's not enough to hold on to. The Kindle 2 has always looked to me as something that would be nice to hold. I've never liked the idea of a narrow bezel.

Just a quick update, charged it for an hour when it arrived before using. Disappointed in it so not used it much this afternoon. Picked it up to have a look at it and battery critical shut down.Couldn't tell what battery levels were due to the lighting bolt.
Been charging for 40 mins, wont open yet.
Going to give it a full charge and speak with Amazon am.

Sometimes the next page button responds and sometimes it doesn't. Im hoping this is user error as Im getting used to it. Anybody else having similar problems?

Plus battery showing lighting bolt when not connected to the mains???

mack120
my first one felt like that at first (the next not responding). I think it was a combination of me getting a feel for the device, and it was not fully charged at the time.

and yes, the bolt is normal.

Hi mack120

Got 2 Kindle 2 internationals delivered in sunny France today, so had the ability to see how they are meant to work by comparing the 2, 1 had no problems at all - it came nearly fully charged so it only took me about 25 minutes to get the green light and everything was totally cool (unfortunately that one was my wife's)

However mine had very similar problems to you - the bolt on the charger showed all the time regardless whether it was charging (it is not normal I'm afraid kindlekitten, so you may have a problem).

Page turns seem clunky and did not always work and everything was dog slow (remember I had something to compare it against)

I tried a hard reset (power button for 15 secs) still no joy.

Anyway on further investigation I found out that it came very low on power and according to amazon it take about 6 hours to charge off of a USB port, not the 3 hours implied everywhere that charging is mentioned.

It is now working just brill - I did a hard reset again, holding the power button for a count of at least 30 secs, charged it using a wall socket rather than USB, finally got the green light, did another hard reset as before and now it works just as fast and smooth as the wifes and the power bolt has been replaced by the charge level indicated when not plugged in to charge.

Must say I am very impressed, with the whole things, the wireless delivery is just awesome had my first 10 books delivered and my first book read by this evening.

Anyway hope this helps mack120

There are some people that are having issues with the new Astak Pocket Pros that I believe are similar. Needs a good charging and a firm reset.

Well, most battery-powered devices comes with a warning to fully power the battery before first use - or else you're asking for trouble.

Hi Ea / mack120

Yes I know most battery-powered devices comes with a warning to fully power the battery before first use - or else you're asking for trouble.

but after 4 hours on a USB port - I thought it should be charged especially as Amazon say 3 hours in the lit.

Also mack120 I've found out how to do a restart or restore factory defaults

home, menu, settings, menu then restart or reset to factory defaults
