Which leads me to wonder if the same set up ....i.e. my kindle charger would work to charge my Sony 505 -- the cheap generic charger did not work, but it does not have the resistance between 2 and 3 either -- infinite on it -- open.
The charger than came with my Astak measures Open as well between 2 and 3

Here's another third-party charger which works with the Kindle 2.

This one, branded QDOS, was purchased at Darty in Luxembourg in December 2009. The resistance between the data lines is about 1.3 ohms.

This one is marked on the package as being suitable for all iPods as well as for the iPhone 3g/3GS.

....and, for the record, here's one which does not work. On this one there is infinite resistance between the D+/D- lines.

This one is interesting because it was actually sold with a micro-USB connector, which made me think that it follows the Universal Charger Specification, but I think that's not the case.

In my car I use the charger for my BlackBerry Tour. Works perfectly! You can pick them up at any Sprint store or Verizon store.

OKIE, but I rather do it online since I used to work at Sprint, and I know how they overcharge for stuff like this.

Anyone else experienced this?
Hi everyone, I am from Australia and about to buy a DX. I wondered how I could power up my Kindle here in Aus. knowing that the US and AUS electrical power charging systems are different.
Under the 'about your country' information on the Amazon Kindle site, it stated that Kindle ships with a micro-USB cable for charging your Kindle via a computer USB port .
I can't see any reason why this will not work here Aus.
I'm sure hoping it will

to Your Grace:

There's a lot more on this topic both in this thread and on the Amazon community forum.

The point is that for purchasers in Australia (unlike most other countries) the Kindle 2 and DX are shipped without a mains charger. Therefore the options for charging your future Kindle are:

1) to charge via the USB port of a computer - which works fine, but has caused some annoyance for some people who want to be able to charge their Kindle away from a computer

2) to buy a wall charger which delivers USB-type voltage: as explained here and elsewhere, only a few models of wall charger will work with the Kindles.

If you want more information, I suggest you take the time to read the Amazon community thread referenced above.

Hi Your Grace. To save you some reading time, buy the Digitor M9912 charger from Dick Smiths (also available online) - dont buy any other Digitor model, as they wont work, just the model above. I am the one who discovered this charger and posted that info on the Amazon thread referred to by Allenlux.

The iphone charger will not charge the kindle, but apparently the blackberry phone charger does. The Digitor model will also charge the iphone though, and comes with international plug changers so it is a good versatile product. I think I should be on a commission!

Thank you both for your wonderful advice
Pushka I also think you should be getting a commission
I have a Dick Smiths nearby and will enquire there when I work out how much extra my DX will cost above the original price.

I got mine at Sprint for $10. I thought that was pretty cheap. Plus the Sprint logo on the plug part lights up with a nice yellow glow.

I just bought this charger today online... Thanks for the tip...

My kindle has finally finished charging through the USB cable.. I suppose, since I just got the unit, I was a bit impatient.
