Giving other to the ones who would use this silly word, the results so far are
101 against vs. 26 for. I say the silly word is a bust and we can now officially give it up. |

Henry? Ed? Hmmm..... maybe I'll call mine Rover, because it follows me around and is always lying on the sofa and bed. And because I've always wanted a dog named Rover, but it just hasn't fit any dog so far.

I think a major factor might be that it's easier for native English speakers to pronounce lecteur than liseuse.

Three of those words should start with a CAPITAL "I." Can you guess which ones?
FWIW, I detest the term "liseuse." And I know just enough French that I can probably pronounce it correctly. For clarity (and lack of similar use anywhere else in the world), we should banish this annoying term. In my household,we call the ebook devices "book thingies." Works forus. ![]() |

Pretty overwhelming results.
Someone shoot this term and get it out of our misery. |

Well, e-reader or lisseuse, peaple don't understand. I usually have to say "Electronic book reader", which is long and annoying.

Or the readee. Hey! That's a great name to mozzle for book reader. From now on, I insist that we all call our reading devices readees.

How about RD (pronounced: are-dee) ?
It parallels TV, and like liseuse it can be said to be derived from French. (i.e.: Reader [<- borrowed from English] Digitalique) - Ahi |

When I first saw the word in the title of the forum threads, I thought it was a word used to make fun of DRMs! LICEnse to USE, though spelled a little differently of course.

We;ve already gone round with a French word that didn't work. I think it's time to stay away from French words for naming our devices.
