From what I have read from another CrunchGear article a Rep from IREX says that there is no on board memory. It stores everything on the SD Card. I quit using the SD card on my 505 because it slowed things down. I hope this is not the case with the IREX.

That LED would drive me nuts. If it can't be turned off, I think I would pass on the device.

It's Irex so ... believe me, not only can be possible, but WILL BE in this way. No on-board memory, and no outside access to SD card.

"... Installed in the battery compartment on the back is a 2GB SD Card, which can hold up to 1,500 e-books and can be replaced with a larger-capacity card."

But, the back compartmet seems big, so hope they have finally resolved their HUGE problems with battery life and use, and at least the included one is new, large capacity one, exchangeable as well, perfect if standard and compatible with some mobile devices (so cheap and easy to find), as well as the device and the firmware/programming does properly use it, because these were very serious problems for all Irex devices in the past.

Looks great. For 70$ extra compared to the PRS-600 (As in my case I would add the leather cover) it looks like a better deal, if the device does not have hidden issues.

I hope too the bright led can be turned off, or at least goes off when reading.

Hardware sounds great, but the instability tales of past irex devices make me nervous. Battery is now user-replaceable, which either means that they are listening to their customers or that they have not resolved their battery life issues. Spokesman mentions that the device will have note-taking support via a later patch, which can mean that they kicked the device out half-baked.

From the video on cnet it just flashes while 'working' and then goes off. The link is in the Digital Reader Forum, posted by someone else.

All cell phone companies are evil IMO. But at least Verizon covers certain areas that neither AT&T nor Sprint do.

From one of the other sites it indicated the led was only on when the wireless was activated. Hopefully they don't have it flash during page turns. I never understood iRex's obsession with having blinking led's on the device.

It's not the coverage that's the problem with Verizon, it's the illegal practices of adding features and changing plans without the consent or knowledge of the customer. Typically to the extent that I had to call them (no exaggeration) every month for 6 months in a row to have them remove "features" or change the plan back to what I signed up for and reverse the overages they had tried to charge me for (for about 80 to 100 dollars each month).

I never had those problems with Sprint before I went to Verizon, or AT&T since I left Verizon. In my experience they are the worst/most dishonest of the whole lot. I also would not trust them to have their cellular connection working in a couple of years. If it was ANY other carrier, I'd be more comfortable that that feature would continue to work/be available in the future, but not with Verizon.
