I broke mine at the weekend.

I've not read too many positive reports on the PRS-600 so I bought a new 505 today - £149.99 from John Lewis so much cheaper than the PRS-600 too. I wouldn't be surprised to see the 505 on sale for some while yet, it's been a very popular reader for Sony and the superior screen visibility is still desired by many users.

Are you sure it is the San Francisco location (10th Street)? I went there today and asked the electronics guys and they said that they hadn't seen any in months. He actually knew exactly what it was.

On a different note, only the Hayward Target still has one new in box unit. The rest of the Bay Area has no stock (I bought the last new unit in the Redwood City store). Fry's in Sacramento and Roseville show having 3 units each available for $229.

I hope Sony will be flexible about this and realise how popular the 505 is. They're losing sales by withdrawing it. There isn't really an equivalent choice in the Sony range now, neither the 600 nor the 300 match it. The 300 suffers from a smaller screen and no SD slot, and the screen of the 600 is blurry and lacks contrast, also not everyone wants a touch screen. Until they develop something better, they should leave the 505 in place.

I scored a 505 on eBay -- like new/perfect condition -- from a reputable seller for $225 (and it comes with the original box/accessories, plus an a/c adapter and 8GB memory stick).

The price at Play has gone up to £200 over the past couple of weeks. Obviously there's still a lot of demand for the 505 and supply must now be getting very low.
[edit 29/10 - actually I now see it's gone back down to £160. Might have been a pricing error before, or maybe they unearthed another batch.]

Who can beat THIS deal...

Yesterday I purchased the Sony PRS-505 reader brand new at Target (which is now a discontinued item) for $69.99 - 75% off the regular price!!!

Sonystyle.com shows it as a discontinued item.
