I think it's the titles:

Batman Forever is the 3rd film, which introduces Robin.
Batman and Robin is the 4th film with Batgirl in it.

Some of those I rather liked. I mean, all things considered you can't have things be perfect, because you're condensing into a finite amount of time. But I thought Watchmen was one of the better adaptations, especially of Moore's work (LXG anyone?)

On the first four batman movies, 1 was good, 2 was ok, 3 sucked, 4 was like that time you got the vacuum stuck and couldn't get it off, until after everything had started turning funny colors.

Like so many other movie adaptations, Watchmen suffered from trying to get too much into a 2-hour time slot... or trying to cut too much away. A story like Watchmen should have been done as a multi-episode mini-series, in order to allow as much time as needed to tell the story (I'd guess six, maybe eight hours to include the Black Freighter material, would have been enough).

Otherwise, you're better off writing fresh material that will fit into your standard movie time-slot, since moviegoers rail at significantly longer movie lengths, and theaters resist them because of the lower box office.

Well, I'll have to admit that I enjoyed the movie as a bit of mind fluff. I really didn't expect them to create the entire ouevre. My biggest disappointment was the absence of the Squid. After that, cutting out the comic book within a comic book was evile. Probably not doable on the screen, but still evile.

Considering movie quality at the time, especially those in the Action vein (and once more in the comic book vein), it is by far one of the best of the period. While I don't like the '89 Batman movie, or its sequels, I can appreciate what Burton was able to do. After Joel Schumacher took over, well, he just was horrible.

I do like that batmobile.

And for part of it, well, you do have to take in account Burton's Style, and that he was trying to capture the feel of a comic.
