Device: Shocked by how much I've read on an iPod Touch received as a gift!
The most exciting piece in the CNET article was that maybe we should wait a few more weeks after these two are released!

CNET: Sony says there will be no wireless option for these models; they are "tethered devices." But in speaking with reps, they did say that Sony was committed to bringing out a wireless device and while they didn't mention an exact time frame, it appeared to be soon, perhaps within weeks. So, if you're waiting for a wireless Reader, whatever form it takes (built-in Wi-Fi or cellular), you should probably hold out a bit longer.

Excellent Font Support – It comes with an in-built Font Fusion Engine from BitStream that supports Chinese, Korean, Japanese. It also claims to support ANY font. The default fonts look good (these are fonts on my PC, not on the Sony)

!?!??! REALLY???
I wonder if that'll be supported via firmware upgrade on the 700. If not, then I might have to drop my 700 for a 600.
They're just making (wrong) guesses from some keywords. Font Fusion Engine was used since PRS-500 for LRF rendering only and the only fonts included on all Readers so far were the same Dutch, Swiss and Courier. Text in menus and TXT/RTF files is rendered using Freetype. PDF and EPUB renderer is made by Adobe and uses standard Adobe fonts.

I'm interestd in seeing the wireless devices, but not interested in buying one. Great they are keeping those options for now. I think it will take longer than a few weeks though.

P.S. it would be nice to have extended fonts in new models but if it was so I think Sony definitely would have mentioned it...

two differently times releases?

Why not release all three new readers at once and let the customer choose what they want?

Is Sony doing the 300 and 600 in August and the 900 in October the equivalent of a "1-2 punch?" Is Sony doing it this way to keep the company's name in the news longer? How is this news affecting the Kindle's business?

Either way, I am excited to hear that Sony is not leaving the ebook business and in fact seems to be positioning themselves quite well.

Yup, me too. After reading on some speculations about Sony turning its back on the ebook business, I was worried for awhile. What a relief! Instead, it seems that they are even more committed to it.

I love my silver Sony PRS-505 but I might be tempted to buy the Sony PRS-600. And this time I'm going for the red color.

I think so too. It might be what they release to keep up with their yearly October release dates and the Holiday crunch!

MAYBE (and this is a big Maybe!) Sony wasn't planning on releasing the 300/600 quite so soon...but since information on the 300/600 leaked out here at MR they decided to go ahead and release them while working on their other model...
