I don't mind white devices, but don't think it is the best choice for an e-ink device as it makes one perceive the screen background as darker.
Yep. We spoke the bookeen about color, they said they were limited on what they could do because of that. And flashy colors attracting the eyes, too.

Hmm, only because Apple made their device white...

I can understand that about flashy clolours... But a white and a black model would have been great! I'd have bought one in a flash... (ok, as soon as I could order it here...)

Some 16 years ago I saw a black computer in a store. I was amazed. It was all black: keyboard, mouse, CPU, monitor... so cool, so special. Back then all computers, printers, etc. were white, ivory or whatever you call it.

Interestingly enough, that sounds a whole lot like a NeXTstation, which was made by the company Steve Jobs founded after getting ousted from Apple.

No, it wasn't that. It was in 1993, the year the NeXTstation was discontinued, so I doubt I'd have seen it in a prominent place in a store display. Also, it looked bigger, more solid.

The point is that while today I see black computers and gadgets as normal (the laptop I'm writing at now is a pure black ThinkPad), it wasn't always like that, there was a time when black was rare for computers.

Oh, black absolutely used to be rare for computers way back when. I think the point I was trying to make (but wasn't very clear about) was that NeXT was among the first companies to make black computers (the original NeXT was released in 1988). And surprise surprise, it was in large part due to Jobs. It's very similar to how before the original iPod, consumer electronics were almost never stark white. And how all manner of things were translucent jelly colors in the late 90s.

The Opus sure has a nice design, seems to make much more sense ergonomically than the Cybook.

But, c'mon ... 250 Euros?! The BeBook Mini is about to be sold for 199.-, including a cover. Sorry, but the price is a real no-go right now.

Doesn't seem terribly out of line to me. I'm sure that it will sell well at that price.

Godzil, take a look at this video.

It's in Dutch, but as a German I do understand most of it. And the official of Bookeen (whom I met in Berlin last year at the IFA) cleary states that the price will be 199.- Euros.

We'll just have to wait and see, won't we? With the Cybook Gen3 selling for 239.- and the Sony PRS-505 for 249.- right now in Germany, the Opus faces a tough competition in terms of price.
