That is kind of the case in Sweden also but you have to fill up the card with around 10 Euro per year for it to continue to be valid. Is that not the case in UK?

Not as far as I know, but I may be mistaken.

oddly enough, i haven't bought many books from amazon, have never bought a music download, and well, electronics, hah - i try to not indulge too much.

they got me on the phone front, and i pay my minimum for internet, but damn, they will not get my $$$ for shoddy tv.

and yes, i do feel we're getting ripped off.

well, yes, amazon doesn't own it, but the are paying SOMETHING to use it, and amazon grants me that access... for "free" by virtue of owning a Kindle (new, used, they don't seem to care)... so they are effectively "giving me" the network for free.

it's somewhat comparable due to the perceived differences in costs for the various services, in particular, the high costs and known profits compared to the actual overhead.

amazon must certainly have brokered a fantastic deal for the network access... don't have any idea how they did that or what they pay, but WOW. i can imagine in another country they'd be turned down for lowballing and/or not want to pay going rates. so it goes.

Well, if Amazon talked to T-Mobile and Vodafone I'm not surprised they did not come to an agreement...ask one of those two for decent prices or a real flatrate and expect "yes" as an answer...well...not likely to happen.

Maybe they should have tried O2 or e-plus, they are usually a bit more...innovative and customer friendly.

T-Mobile managed to ruin the iPhone for the german market, I guess they wanted to try the same for the Kindle.
