In the 1980's, I worked as a library attendant at the State Library of Victoria in Melbourne (Australia). I've never forgotten the Latin inscriptions on the stained glass windows. I had to check with Mr Google to get it absolutely right but here it is:

"Delectant domi non impediunt foris peregrinantur" - Cicero

which means -

"Books are a delight at home and no hindrance abroad".

Those stained glass windows are now either gone or concealed behind false walls. Sadly, books are no longer so loved by library management. Exhibitions, conference rooms, computer terminals and "modernising" draw more paying customers.

(Actually, the word "book" doesn't appear in the Latin quote. The word "book" could be assumed from the context of being in a library or the fact it is part of a longer passage from Cicero about literary studies. Latin experts may correct me if they wish).
