I think if Roy was to have a device with a Vizplex screen, his 500 would be history. Even if the device was a 6" screen.

Jon. I wonder if the Sony will be substantially' cheaper. What do you think? If the two were essentially the same price (within say 75 bucks for example... Sometimes I spend nearly 75 bucks on a round of golf) then I'll make my decision based on the availability and cost of books. It seems to me that the Amazon bookstore can't be beaten in the ebook world. I don't know why some peole are so ticked at Amazon for their "horrid business practices" but the Kindles ability to shop at any time, preview books, get books from Gutenberg and Manybooks, the ability to transfer text files via Usb and (prolly most importantly) get free books from this site and store 1500 in it's memory banks seems like the deal clincher for me. I've always disliked he Sony store and it's ways. The preview feature has me real excited. When I go into Borders I enjoy browsing the stacks and picking up random books to read for a taste. (I know the electroni experience is not the same) I usually know if I want to finish a book by the end of the first chapter so I look at that feature as a potential money saver. Is there any hard facts out yet about a Sony big screen reader?

Nope. Pure speculation. However, given that PVI are now making 9.7" screens, it's reasonable to assume that all the major device manufacturers are likely to release devices using them in the not too distant future.

Jon I only have about 6 or 7 lrf's I've purchased from. Sony. And no PDF a at all. I'm not going to lose anything by switching. Question! I saw on another thread that (if I understood correctly) you could surf this site on the DX And download a Mobi file directly to your DX? That's hot! (if true)

Yes you can! The speed is a function of signal strength and whether you have 3G service in your area. These photos show 'desktop' mode, where the web page looks just like it does on a computer. There's also 'basic' mode, which is a simpler layout, but faster. Most of the time it took to get this book was navigating to the link, the book itself downloaded quickly.

Note that the Kindle DX currently does *not* allow direct downloading of PDFs.

Direct downlaoding... I'm lusting heavily. Harry I haven't seen the vizplez screen. Is it really that much better than the Sony 500? I'm the type of guy who drives old cars, has a 20 year old TV, if my cargets a small dent I don't fix it, in short, I'm a cheapskate. As long as it ain't broke, I don't buy a new one. But on this issue, I'm breaking out of the mold. I'm 99.99999999999999 percent sure I'm gonna order the DX. Prolly within the month. I'm on vacation these 2 weeks. Just starting second week. Golf, (there's a free golf area where you have to chase yer own balls that I haunt heavily) Sun, sleeping in, and if course... Reading. I'm using my iPhone to monitor the mobielread verdict on the DXand so far you wonderful people haven't let me down. Keep those reviews coming!

Unless the keyboard being horrible is an issue for you, I think you'll enjoy the DX.

I think the only use I will make of the keyboard is using the dictionary and light annotations. I presume you have to use the keyboard to access the Internet too. I should just order it. I could order it right now using my iPhone. Must.... Resist...... Must..... Resiiiissssttt.......

I've spent most of the morning reading DX reviews and comments here. It looks as if the "official verdict" is 2 thumbs up? What say everyone?
