that's a big problem for me too, that most of the types of books I like are (often) only available with drm as an added extra ....

If eBooks would be without DRM and reasonably priced it would be better & easier for ALL of us!

And to make things worse, there are lots of people making lots of money out of this mess... (not the writers)

Well, I'm really upset right now about Bookeen.

A little update:

Since two weeks I try to reformat my Cybook (my Cybook isn't able to read any data from the internal 512mb anymore, no pics, music whatever). They were not able to solve my problem and they don't give me a firmware to re flash my device.

I sent the last mail one week ago but still no answer, I don't know how they handle their firmware builds, but from my programmers point of view it's a disaster!

I don't know how they handle their code, but they should be able to provide the firmware of every release they installed on their devices, in my case the 1.4 885. But, it's not the case. Currently I have a 400 swiss francs paperweight!

I already bought books with adobe digital editions but it does not recognize my device anymore. So my Cybook is quite useless.

I'm sorry but I can't recommend the Cybook to my colleagues as it's not stable and not supported from the company behind. I hope somebody from Bookeen reads this post as it's really, really frustrating.

Regards

Have you ever tried to return the CyBook to the shop where you've bought it?! Normally if there's something wrong within the first few weeks I'd go/call/write to the shop I've bought the device and ask for a replacement.

In your case the device has not fullfilled all the advertised features (handbook in MOBI/PRC but not readable, not all formats working) and is not working properly. I'd ask for a replacement or my money back.

As far as I know Weltbild (I'm from Austria), they're nice people and surely try to help you solve your problems!

I don't know the status in other countries, but in the UK it is the seller who is responsible for the 'correct' working of anything - not the manufacturer ....

Weren't you (at least) able to read ePUB from the SD card?

Please look in the "eBook Uploads" section to find hundreds of ePUBs put together by nice people of the forums or just google for free ePUB files or look at feedbooks.com or...

There must be any books out there that interest you and help to shorten the time till your problem gets solved!

A little update from my side.

I was able to return the cybook to my vendor. With my money back in my pockets I went straight to the next store and bought a sony prs-505 and you know what, it works... the first time since 06.04.2009 i'm able to read my bought books on an ebook reader... yay!

Many thanks for all your help. And have a lot of fun with your Cybooks!

I suppose somebody may close this thread now...

Huh, you just wait. The new firmware will come out and it will be *AWESOME* (shame that here I can't make the word awesome sound the way Barney Stinson does, but try to imagine him saying it). And then we will be highfiving the whole time, until our virtual hands will be hurting. :high five:
Bro' out.
