As I understand it, Rowling is afraid of unauthorized copying destroying sales. I've never met her personally, mind you, this is just the most general kind of hearsay. But that's what I heard.

I've never heard she has anything against technology per se.

I simply hate it when people ask me what I'm reading. I don't mind in the least discussing my Sony - I think I converted the entire oral surgeon's office while my husband was coming out of anesthesia. One fellow at work persisted in asking me every few days what I was reading until I started responding in generalities ("a book", "a trashy romance novel"). I wouldn't dream of peeking at someone's book list unless invited to.

And, for the record, I'm in the middle between extrovert and introvert. And I had a migraine today so I might be a bit more grumpy than usual.

This is horrendously off topic, sorry, but you should see some of the uneducated, non-researched drivel they've posted about Mixed Martial Arts. After reading a few unsubstantiated articles about a subject so dear to me, I think I'd be more surprised by an article on any relatively new (to the mainstream) topic that was well thought out and actually researched. Sometimes it's painfully obvious the author couldn't be bothered to take 30 seconds to check Wikipedia.

I know there are people who disagree with this, saying that NYT is some of the most superior journalistic work out there... but my feeling is, if that publication can't even recognize or acknowledge the evolution going on in its own industry, they don't seem too superior to me.

Anyway: I don't mind people asking me what I read. The thing is, they almost never do! First, I'm reading on a PDA, and that just doesn't generate the same interest as a Kindle or Sony, etc. Second, on the rare occasion when people do ask me what I read, I tell them "science fiction," and you can see the mists forming over their eyes...
