But still - it just might work! Whaddya think?
I know people who do that in general for online purchases so if the account gets compromised, their main account isn't tied up. Seems like a good way to keep yourself to a budget. You could put your "fun money" budget in there every month and use that debit card for all your non-necessities. When it's done, it's done. The only problem is you have to monitor it if you don't want an overdraft charge.

I have made a point of purchasing books from authors who in my opinion share the fair pricing and open spirit of digital publishing. There's so many good authors out there. I currently have a backlog of books (about 45 to read). However all said and done I've only spent less than $15. I'm reading alot of free books, but if I find an author who is like minded about electronic publishing by making supportive statments, I buy outright.

As for amazon books, I've downloaded the 1st chapter on a few books that I think MIGHT interest me. I would pass them by if it weren't for the free chapter. I hope to be pleasantly surprised.

I've only purchased one book from Amazon since I got my Kindle2. On the other hand I've purchased about 45 books (~$105) at Baen Books in the last three weeks and have had to sternly take myself to task to limit that spending.

I've read about 25 of those as well as several free books from here, Amazon, and Tor so far and I am not allowing myself any new purchases until I am down to ten or so.

BTW I am not sure but I think that if you read a LOT (2-3 books a day) you can run down your batteries much faster than advertised. I have not been able to exceed a week without a recharge with even with WiFi off.

Yes, the battery issue is the one thing that makes me doubt that ebooks will ever totally replace pbooks. ;-)

By the way, to the person who says just download the samples - yeah, I do that a lot and it's a great feature. However, has anyone else noticed that some of the samples are great, but others are really ... well ... sucky? (Sorry ... let's say "poorly formatted"!)

I downloaded a sample of a book the other day which was great - it started right at the first page of the first chapter and gave me two chapters. That gave me a terrific opportunity to see if it was something I wanted to buy (and I did!).

OTOH, another book I sampled gave me the cover page, several pages of reviews, the title page, the copyright page, the dedication page, the table of contents, and ... one paragraph of the first chapter! I decided agin' it. ;-)
