I have a PRS-505 (just purchased last month), and I am enjoying Public Library support too much right now to switch. And with this economy, having two ebook readers does not seem to be in the cards!

Right after I bought my Sony 505, the Kindle 1 was announced. I have been wanting one ever since - sooo my Kindle 2 is going to be delivered on March 2nd (I hope). I guess there is no way to transfer all the books I have on the Sony over to the Kindle. I am out of the country a lot -is there a way to hook the Kindle up to my computer to order books?

I am sticking with my Kindle 1. Of course I bought it in September of last year so it is still a baby. Like some of the features of the K2 but not enough to drop $359. I don't think and feel that Amazon owes any of us anything. Lots of whining about deserving discounts, etc... for upgrading. Why on Earth do you think they should do that. It is ridiculous. In another year or so I might upgrade. Been really happy with my K1.

On a separate note: Linda, The K1 came with a USB cable to hook up to your computer if you want to. You can transfer books using it. If you are outside the country you can still browse to Amazon and buy books. They will be available in your account to download immediately and will sit patiently to download via Whispernet (if you have not manually moved them) the next time you turn it on in the US. You should not have any issues with buying via the web outside the US.

You can buy books online over your computer and then go to manage kindle account to send them to same computer, then simply move via usb to your kindle.

Where did you purchase the books on your Sony? If they came from the Sony store and are .lrx format, you'll only be able to read them on your Sony or your computer using the Sony software. Same with Digital Edition books. If they are of a different format, you might be able to read them on the Kindle... it just depends.

Huh. I didn't even think about doing that, but I'm glad I can. I'm leaving the country for a couple of weeks not long after I should get the kindle.

I have a Sony 505 right now. I am going to wait to hear what people say about it before I order one.

I bought some from the Sony store, but have bought a lot from Fictionwise and Books on Board (microsoft reader format) converting them using the pdflrf software. I have a few adobe ones that are impossible to read on the Sony. Can I convert any of these?

If the books are DRMed you may have problems, but it still might be do-able. Try doing a search on the file extension. Ex: lrf to mobi There are quite a number of conservion threads on this forum, and lots of personal help to get them to work. Perhaps someone can answer your specific question right here, but if not, don't go away -- search.

I finally bit the bullet and pre-ordered the Kindle 2. Ir was the reader that I really wanted for Xmas but it was not available on Amazon, so not being one to wait, I got the PRS-505 which I love! But I am still mesmerized with the K2. So I want to compare the two, then will sell one.
