The max_supported_fwversion does not seem to block any actions. The lines below which list the minimum FW version for various features are likely more important.

Considering the amounts of Tolino bits and bobs in the v6.0 schema, it would appear that Kobo is trying hard to get down to one firmware for both families.

I think it does:

if self.dbversion > self.supported_dbversion or self.is_supported_fwversion:
    # Unsupported database
    [...]

(But by now it's been fixed anyway, so max_supported_fwversion has been updated as well.)

I got an update prompt for this the other day on my Kobo Libra Color in the USA, chose not to update until its not a beta. Bought from Kobo and not tied to any other affiliate. I honestly thought it was just a 5.x release so my eyebrows raised when i saw the thread title.

Oof. Users are also reporting data loss to the point that they've commented on it on social media.

I would not be pushing out this update to a broad audience... this really needs more time in the oven. I want to see the folks at Kobo succeed, really, but they're making it hard to defend this kind of stuff by releasing buggy software.

They've had plenty of time. Some of us have been living with 5.x for over two years..
