Sigil 2.7.5 Release Candidate (RC) Now Available - Page 5

I have now downloaded the new Windows build and uploaded it my personal repo using RC2 in the name.

It is ready for download.

Now, we just have to figure out how to deal with allowing users on small screens to effectively hide the Reports and Spellcheck Dialogs to allow them to edit Sigil underneath.

Right now we are doing that with minimize but just for those two windows and the ClipBoardHistorySelector.

Do we:

A) remove the minimize hints as they will not work on some Linux and not on Macs at all
and just tell people to buy some commercial extension that hides them or buy a larger monitor? or a second monitor?

B) remove them and replace them with a simple self hiding window approach I posted about earlier (see testit.py in that post to play around with the concept yourself in python)

C) Just leave them as it is now, and people that use it can figure out how to minimize Sigil and un-minimize it to get back all Sigil's Windows, and people who do not like that simply do not use those 3 minimze buttons.

D) some other idea?

Thoughts?

When you get a free moment would you add that cherrypicked Windows only patch to Sigil docs in the Qt Patches folder so it is documented that we built Qt with that and so we do not lose it if future changes are needed.

I'm leaning toward C--at least for this next release. We can look into B after that. Or A if it all becomes too problematic.

Looks good here. The About box, Preferences, Metadata Editor, Edit Table of Contents, Saved Searches, etc. have only the exit button, Reports & Spellcheck minimize to the status bar. I'm going to have to re-install 2.7.0 to see if there are any changes I am missing.

Wow, I must have missed it. You are moving fast!

With that fix, I think all reported issues with the RC up to now have been addressed. I may make an RC2 for Macs tomorrow just to be consistent with Linux and Windows with only the change to empty the cache when using open-with being new for Macs.

And as I said, users who do not want to minimize need not use it. And BeckyEbook was correct in that the only minimize buttons added by us since the last release was to the Spellcheck Editor dialog, and the Reports Dialog. All I did since your bug report was about "stale previously minimized windows now existed" was add code to properly close both Spellcheck and Reports when opening a new epub so stale windows will no longer exist.

If Qt 6.19,2 has moved to all minimize buttons on all dialogs on Windows, then that is a bug that must be filed with Qt. To tell you, the truth, in my limited Windows testing, I never noticed it. But I only use Windows once in a blue moon.

You are right they don't disappear into the ether, they shrink to mini title bar windows at bottom left corner of the monitor… they can be hard to spot, and they can only be restored with mouse clicks.

Windows doesn't include those windows in its active windows list, hence they are not accessible via Alt+Tab or Winkey+Tab.

Is that what you intended?

What happens to minimized windows is completely up to the OS? AFAIK, Sigil can not control that. Hell on Mac no matter what I do with code in Sigil it just disables the min button.

For people on small screens who are desperate for space, they can now minimize those two dialogs and them bring them back. That was the design goal for that requested feature. No one need use them unless they so desire.
