You can get 2.4.0 (70904) directly from Amazon. The secret sauce is in modifying the URL for the current version. In this case, changing the 70964 directory to 70904 and the filename from KindleForPC-installer-2.6.70964.exe to KindleForPC-installer-2.4.70964.exe. Is thanking Amazon for not purging older versions so you can still the 2.4.0 version is appropriate?
Code:
https://kindleforpc.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/70964/KindleForPC-installer-2.6.70964.exe https://kindleforpc.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/70904/KindleForPC-installer-2.4.70904.exe Last edited by DNSB; 02-25-2025 at 04:12 PM. |

Yes, I can deal with the KFX format if I have to...my complaint is that it sucks. That's why I asked what the last K4PC version was that still delivers the books as AZW3 rather than KFX.

Yes, it does and is less close to publisher's intent than AZW3/KF8. The "advanced typesetting" in mostly rendering that could be applied to azw3.

Most people that remove DRM and format shift are the same ones that prefer to customize/homogenize their ebook formatting experience anyway. We are rapidly approaching a time where "Publisher's Intent" is a meaningless distinction.

For me, it's that I've always preferred the resulting EPUB from using the KindleUnpack plugin over Calibre's stock "convert" option. KindleUnpack can't seem to do anything with the KFX files.

![]() There was talk, but it's such a drastic change from the other formats that I'm not certain incorporating it into the existing KindleUnpack routines would be the best use of someone's time. |

We know what the publisher's intent is. It's to duplicate the pBook experience and in a lot of cases, that doesn't work for the eBook.

For some publisers, not all. I agree ebooks shouldn't ape the printed ones and should take advantage of reflowing and user size changes instead of fighting it.

Everything downloaded. Now just dithering as to whether to pay FULL PRICE* on the remaining Wheel of Time (these 5 have never been discounted). I'm only dithering because I already spent my book annual budget filling in series only available at Amazon and it's only February. My only difficulty was finding out that 2 books are KF8 so limited to my Fire. They are encyclopedia type books (Star Wars characters, Marvel characters).

Granted, it's not as "clean" as transcoding from KF8 which is basically just a container change, but as "clean" as you can get taking into account how KFX works. |
