Having a device in airplane mode is not the same as not using it. Many of us sideload all our books and don't want every update automatically applied. For instance, I patch my Kobo; as patches must be redone after every update, I only update when I have time to do that, and when there's something in the update I want. I don't install every update Kobo sends out, there's just no need to do it.

I have a Kobo Aura One which I recently managed to mangle the books on the device (completely user error). So, when I finish my current book I am planning to wipe it and start over.
Going forward, I am only going to sideload books. Even ones purchased through Kobo I will load via Calibre. (This is so I can actually track the ratings I give books, along with state). So, when I wipe it, I had two ideas on how to setup the Kobo again. 1. Do a factory reset, and find where to set the SideloadedMode flag. 2. Do a factory reset, create a dummy account with Kobo, and never use it. Let it sync to get updates as needed. In theory since everything is sideloaded, nothing ever gets sent to Kobo. Thoughts? Tim |

@Sirtel,
Did not think of the archive feature on Kobo. If you were going to start over, which way would you go? Tim |

If you're going to sideload everything, I don't see a reason to use anything other than sideload mode, unless you really like the Home screen for some reason.

As my purchases are already archived, I would probably just register as before. My second choice would be the sideloaded mode. I wouldn't bother with a dummy account (the updates can be applied manually).

For me, since I am using Kobo Plus to obtain quite a few of my ebooks from Kobo, SideloadedMode is not an option.
