It's like the old saying goes, "A fool and his money are soon parted." Ever since Microsoft came out with Windows Defender only silly people buy AV software. Windows was such a magnet for viruses that Microsoft *had* to start dealing with it rather than rely on the AV vendors to solve the problem. And they're the best ones to deal with the problem since they wrote Windows and can eyeball the code to see what vulnerabilities a virus is exploiting.
