Depends on the font, and depends on what you mean by terrible. I wouldn't say it's worse than Kindle or Kobo, but then I'm no expert on fonts.

What font are you using on your Glowlight Plus? I mostly stuck to Georgia, but lately I've been liking Malabar.

DejaVu Serif Eink by Katsunami, but I don't actually remember if I already used it when I took the picture. I think it's DejaVu in the photo, so it seems I did.

I couldn't get used to Malabar, but I'd probably use Georgia if no font embedding was possible.

I've never bothered embedding fonts in a book. I do wish you could add fonts to Nook.

Gotcha. I had always assumed (as the OP apparently also did) that that subforum was intended for any discussion of modified devices.

I have a couple of Windows 10 devices. I run Windows 10 as is and don't mess with it. I also don't go to message boards where people talk about modifying Windows 10. It's just something I have no interest in.

Probably for the same reasons I come here. I like to see if there is news of any new firmware or any reports of glitches. And if anybody asks basic newbie questions that I might be able to answer, I'll try to do that.

I had to convert my azw3 files to epub anyway, so I let Calibre embed the font during conversion.

i suggest you reread my comment. i said less inclined if it was (only) about modification. this forum like most forums covers a wide/varied spectrum doesn't it?

This makes no sense. The firmware updates come automatically to the devices, there is no need to look for them if you run stock.

Those of us who patch might/will have enabled automatic firmware updates and have the need to look here.

However wanting to help is always a good reason.

It makes perfect sense. Just because a person is running stock firmware it doesn't mean they aren't worried about bugs, or interested in hearing about new features in the firmware. There's also discussion of new devices, and, as 4691mls said, troubleshooting possible issues and helping others.

Honestly, without the ability to patch Kobo, I'd likely stick to the Nooks. Series and collections are nice, but for me the out of the box reading experience is lacking.

There are ligatures put of the box with no patching needed. Kerning too. I have both kerning and ligatures when I read.

Back when the Sony forum was more active the same thing happened there - there was a separate development subforum but people would post about their modified devices in the regular Sony forum. If things are going to be all jumbled up then why even have a developer forum?

Yes, I know it's not really that big of a deal, I certainly have bigger issues in my life right now....

How about a forum section for unmodified Kobo firmware.

Thanks. The font rendering with the current nook firmware has been fixed.

That's great for the people that find those things important. For the rest of us, though, those are features that just aren't important.

From what I recall of the nook STR, you could side load fonts and then reference them in the CSS. Same with Sony Readers and Kobo.

The bezel is not rubbery. The Nook STR is the only one that ever had a rubbery bezel. I liked it. If Nook would take the old ST chassis and slap a 300ppi screen in it with orange lighting and waterproofing, I'd be a happy customer.
