That's an unproven assumption. Not a fact (other than the "myself included," par of course). My own unproven assumption is that there is way more book-reading being done on LCD than on eInk these days. That eyestrain alleviated by eink is something that affects a pretty-small minority of ebook readers out there.

Cue the "Serious Readers®" argument in 3...2...

There are plenty of users on Mobileread alone who have reported the same thing - they are more comfortable reading on e-ink than on LED devices. While it may not be the case for everyone, including you, I don't see how it renders that experience invlaid.

I don't disagree, but LCD devices are multipurpose and people carry them around. And many of them have never even held an eink device in their hands. But if you ask them whether they prefer to read on screen or on paper for hours, paper will probably win by a margin.

To be honest, LCD screens, as well as being emissive, it is also reflecting some light from the environment so its a matter of emissive plus reflective or just reflective.
E-ink screens also use battery much slower than LCD screens.

I certainly don't consider myself an "e-ink fanatic". It works better for me but I would never insist it was the best for someone else.

From what I've seen on mobileread, there are many people here who prefer reading on eink and many who happily read on LCD devices. The majority of us don't try to convince the others that they are wrong, or that they have not adjusted their device properly.

The same reason that at least one person will insinuate that LCD displays are just bad for everyones eyes, period, because of some unexplained difference in light, and people who still use backlit screens are too stupid to have tried eInk.

There is a relatively small permanent population of the forums, and the same topics come up again and again, so it isn't surprising that the same things get said again and again, both in the reasonable centre and the unreasonable extremes.

Yeah, I know what you mean about recurring topics. I've come to recognize that if I see a certain few regulars have converged on a thread it usually means the thread has become an argument over copyright. I wish there were an "ignore" feature I could set for a specific combination of posters - they are fine on their own but get them together and I don't want to read the thread any longer.

Isn't it wonderful then, that you have the option of *not* reading threads that bother you like that?

Choice. It's a wonderful thing. Choice in which threads to read in a forum, choice in which device to use for reading, choice in which types of books to read. So many choices available to us! Aren't we fortunate?

Yes. We aren't fortunate. With choices available sometimes a decision is made to execute a choice. However you choose, can you be certain it was the right choice?

Except he's not saying he wants to ignore the thread, but rather he would like to ignore certain posters who manage to make the same point in many threads.

(He's probably referring to me.)

Not referring to rcentros!

Yes, i was wishing for the impossible - an "ignore" feature that would kick in when a certain combination of people begin posting in a thread so I wouldn't open it in the first place!

I don't want to set "ignore" for each of these people individually - separately, they're often OK.

it's just when a certain combination get together in the same thread it usually turns into something I'd rather avoid.
