I'd probably spend more for the wally world tablet because the fire tablet's too ios-style walled-garden for me.
Then again, I love my fire TV, even though I have to go to lengths I shouldn't have to to use kodi. Although at least Amazon hasn't done what Sony "accidentally" (yeah, right) did to block kodi. |

I have Kodi on XBOX and MrMC on FireOS and there is no difference except in the skins. Well, and the USB ports on the XBOX, but I use a server to hold my CDs and DVDs anyway. A difference that makes little difference to me. |

Someone above said that the Fire HD8 went on sale for $59 a few times a year. It was also on sale for $50 last year. I forgot to add that I got an extra 5% ($2.50) off for using Amazon Prime Card. The and my Church got something too! The savings just keep mounting. [[All that said, I don't like Bezos personally, but heck the Lemonade stand down the block is charging 25 cents a cup and Jeff only 10 cents and the taste is as good and is as cold. Ok, leebase, I started a check last night at 3:47AM on the Fire HD8 when it was at 96% battery charge and just now at 1:15 PM (about 9 hours) the charge was 93%. I hope I duplicated somewhat your own test by cutting the Fire on, looking at it briefly and then laying it face up and walking away. I am pleased at the results. Give me more parameters if you want to change the test. As for typing on it, my own (subjective) typing seems ok. And by the way Children's Fires are on sale today. _________________ |

I checked the Walmart.ca website, it doesn't seem to be available in Canada.

Monday 11:49PM (32 hours) =84% charge to reemphasize my procedure. I pick up the tablet which is laying on it's back while "ON" and press the button and the screen flicks alive and shows a nice pretty ad with John Snow for the GOT Slots Casino Game (whatever that is) and the time and battery charge. I then lay the tablet down without pressing anything else. Last edited by frahse; 06-17-2019 at 11:57 PM. |

Interesting. Perhaps a software update has improved things and I hadn’t noticed. I had attributed the Walmart tablets performance to Android 9 being better than Android 7.1 (which only the newest Fire tablets get, my year older Fire tablet can’t get that version)

Androids 'charge' status is a self calibrating thing. As you use the device over time, it adjusts the state of charge curve. New devices are basicall a ballpark calibration, the will settle after a bunch of use-charge cycles

Topped up both, turned them on. 4 hours ago. Walmart has 92% battery. Amazon Fire Tab 8 has 88%. Will continue to track

Honestly, +/- 2% doesn't show any real difference to me. Maybe once you consistantly reach 10% (+/- 5% with one tablet always being lower) it would indicate a trend, before it is just statistical noise, IMHO.

Also as mentioned already, I do have Android 7.1 cause I bought the Fire HD 8 late in 2018. Last edited by frahse; 06-18-2019 at 12:05 AM. |

Ok, apparently there has been some software improvement since I formed my opinion that the FireTabs run out of battery fairly quickly when not in use. I KNOW I have, time and again, picked up my Fire tablets and “dammit, it’s on zero battery”.
But I got up this morning, and both the Fire tablet and Walmart tablet were at 72% after a whole day of just being on and not in use. The same...they were the same. Even this isn’t a definitive test but it’s the end of my caring about it ![]() Meanwhile, I used my iPad mini for 4.5 hours screen time (reading, web surfing, YouTube, social media). Went to bed at 80% battery and woke up with 77%. It’s a smaller, thinner tablet with a far more gorgeous screen - and it’s WAY faster, And near 10 times the price |

Having taken a look at the Onn tablet in a Walmart south of the border, I'd go for the iPad Mini if I didn't already have an iPad Pro. |
