Hi, I changed to Chinese, downloaded the update, and it's working well, very well thank goodness.
A big improvement on the original that's made my Max 2 usable - I can now hopefully use it 'in anger' to take lab notes!

I see an option in the background-templates for several custom saves - do you now how to make and use custom templates yet, I'd like a more narrowly-spaced ruled page ideally, not really bothered about the line density too much.

The new-improved eraser functions are very useful indeed now we have the choice of the complete 'stroke deletion' or the more intuitive 'write background over foreground' version which allows the stylus to write as an eraser of the finest details as if you are holding an 'eraser-pen'.

Looking good as it now seems that the basic functionality has been achieved thank goodness.

Advice - write-down (on paper ironically....) the positions of the menu items that you'll need to switch language (back to your chosen language) back after updating with the Chinese language selected to enable availability of this update - as you'll get pretty mixed-up trying to find the language setting while you're in 'Chinese mode'!

Also - the device will show progress bar/s as it's downloading and then re-booting + updating - be patient, they appear not to be doing much but they do complete their tasks in about 5-10 minutes I found.
Resist the temptation to think it's stuck and to try to 'make something happen' - wait it out for a short while as it completes the download-reboot-reinstall processes and all will be fine. Then look at your paper menu-notes to find the language option to change back to (in my case English) your chosen language.

Easier than it sounds.

Glad to hear that the language switching trick works.

Use Photoshop or other editing software to create your own background-template pictures (PNG) and upload to the template folder.

You can also hold the button on the pen to erase. Keep holding. The button finally got some function.

Okay, when I look at the language options in my Note's settings, the last three choices all look (to my unknowing eyes) like versions of Chinese. Which of the three should I choose, or does it matter? Thanks!

Understood. I would also likely lose root if I upgrade - and I'm not sure if I'd be able to re-root. Decisions, decisions!

With mines i couldn't find the pin code security so I installed the Android settings apk but only seems to function for me when I switch the language.

The third from the last option is Simplified Chinese characters (which is what is usually used in mainland China).

The second last option is Traditional Chinese characters.

The final option is Japanese.

I decided to try the upgrade. It installed easily and without incident. I haven't had a chance yet to explore the new or enhanced features.

I lost root, as I thought I would. I tried to get it back, but my first attempt was unsuccessful. To be honest, the only use I made of root was to change Button Savior to a system app so that it would load on startup. I never saw the need to do anything else thus far. I may try rooting again, but it's not a huge priority or a "must". If I do, it will be simply for the sake of the challenge. Can I figure it out?

One new icon I saw when I pulled down the top notification bar was a "power saver mode" icon.
