My Kobo Aura H2O did come with a cable. Have I ever used it? I don't remember. But I have one cable I use all the time when I plug it in. I have use some other cables, but this one cable is the one I use most. It's not the cable that came with my H2O. I have that cable someplace.

I had the same issue with a kobo Clara that I bought used but unsealed a few days ago. I plugged it in and laptop didn’t recognize the ereader. Then I used the cable that the kobo came with and low and behold, the laptop recognized the Clara. I think some cables can only charge while others can charge and transmit data. Super frustrating though. Thought I bought a lemon!

Not only are there charge only cables, but data+charge cables can wear out and break. In either case, your device won't be recognized.

It might seem like the cable has no moving parts, but you forget that it gets bent, and bend it enough times or twist it or coil it too tightly and it breaks. Worse, it is frequently not a clean break, but an intermittent that is sensitive to movement.

It's like.... this is my favorite pen! I can't figure out why it stopped working! I've been using it for years and it was working yesterday... same with usb cables. :->

Cool No Sync Fixed!

Had this same problem for a really long time.
Until I found the original Kobo USB cable that came with the reader, and there it was: a sudden sync!
And not once but repeatedly and with four different Kobo devices that didn't appear to be inclined to sync before.

So to me it really, really, REALLY comes down to the cable I guess.
Hope this helps you...

I'd be inclined to look for my original if I thought there were any identifying markings on it.

Wow! While the USB ports in the front were working fine before the last Windows 11 update, now they will not recognize my eReaders! Thank YOU, rcentros, for the tip on using a port on the BACK of the computer!

I'm running into syncing errors. Sometimes I'll get a Calibre error message, or my computer will say there's an error with the Kobo disk. (If I tell the computer to check, it never finds an error.)

On occasion this will mess up transferring books. Last time two books didn't make it to the Kobo, and seven books made it but the series number didn't "transfer" over.

This has always been an occasional problem. Windows reporting the disk needs to be checked has always happened. It doesn't mean that there is definitely a problem with the disk, just that the last access for it left the dirty bit set. So Windows is warning you of that. This has been much more frequent with firmware 4.31. If that is what you have, updating to 4.32 will probably solve it.

Calibre reporting errors usually means that the database is corrupt. But, it can happen for other reasons. Without the seeing the error message, I couldn't say more.
