No,the slider in the light popup goes down to 0%.

No it doesn't. That's been fixed. I don't remember if it as the first 4.4 release, or one of the later 4.3 released.

And again, I didn't think that as bad behaviour. It reduced the likelihood of an accidental turn of and not having enough light to turn it on again

I'd rather get accustomed to not using it at all. That way I don't get frustrated by it not turning off as expected. I never had any issue with turning it off accidentally. Easy enough to turn it on with the slider before I turn off my lamp or it gets too dark to see. Definitely miss being able to quickly turn it off. Almost makes me want to dig out my old Aura HD with the physical light button!

Not exactly. It used to go back up to 1%, but if you waited a few seconds, it would then jump back down to zero, without further input. Really annoying and confusing behaviour. This is no longer the case. If it worked how you claimed (requiring a double swipe to go to zero), that wouldn't be so bad. This video shows the old 4.3.xxxx behaviour.

It had the opposite effect for me. I was trying to set my brightess to a very low level for night reading, and so I'd reduce it to what I thought was 1% or so. Start reading, and a few seconds later the screen would go dark.

The way it works now is much better for my use, at least. I really hope they don't change it. At the very least, I hope they don't go back to the 4.3.xxx behaviour - I found it seriously annoying.

Yes, I'd forgotten that it turned itself off a few seconds after going up to 1%. I didn't think that making it a two step process to turn the light off was a bad idea as it is to easy to turn it off and end up in the dark.

Agreed. I'm not fussed on the exact interface they use, just don't bloody change the brightness when I'm not touching anything!.

I don't mind a to step process for the slider. It meant that I would not be able to accidentally be in the dark. But, I do mind not being able to shut off the light from the lest side slider.

Thanks, that helped me fix the problem. That particular setting wasn't on, but 'Automatically turn off light in bright sunlight' was set to 'on'. I set it to 'off', and now the frontlight stays off when I turn it off.

It looks like selecting 'Automatically turn off light in bright sunlight' also leads the reader to automatically turn the light on in all other conditions.

Now my light isn't going off when I put it to sleep either. I shut off 'Automatically turn off light in bright sunlight' and the sleep cover setting, but it still stays on. Ugh! Now I miss the left side gesture even more! When I wake it back up, the light goes off then slowly comes up again.

I had that precise problem too, some days ago. I fixed it by returning to an older firmware, and then re-updating to the latest version. Some others found that they could fix it even more simply, just by powering the reader off completely and starting it up again.

I did try rebooting it too. I also discovered even when I shut off the light, it would always come back on both from sleep and power down. Finally got it unstuck by shutting down and continuing to hold the power button for few seconds. So far, so good.

You won't be able to sync if you go back unless you install the patch to prevent a firmware update via sync.

Or unless you change the affiliate to an old one which is valid, but does not get newer versions such as sears.

Hi JSWolf

Thanks for your response.
Just one more thing; now, everytime I switch on, I get the screen "import content ..."
Very annoying.
