Just started Strange Attractors after finishing "From a Changeling Star" (and Pratchetts "Only You Can Save Mankind" as a short interlude ).
Grabbed me immediately - can't wait to find out what's up with Napoleon and Copernicus

Earlier I posted a reply asking how dare Jeff go on a writing retreat without posting The Infinite Sea first and I got stung a bit by protective members of the gang here. C'mon guys, haven't you ever used sarcasm? I think what Jeff is doing is the best thing an author could possibly do, or I would not have left anything in his "tip jar".

If I have offended; sorry about that.

No offense taken, Van. :)

And I'm pleased to report that The Infinite Sea is in conversion right now. I have about half the formats done, and will make it available when I have most of them in place. The usual suspects are helping me.

On the irritating side...

I was doing some voice recordings for my (fingers crossed) intended audiobook of Sunborn. I have the final PDF from Tor, and was reading from that. Wouldn't you know, there's a brand-new typo on the first page of chapter one--introduced during the final final corrections. *&$&$#! Too late to fix; my editor says the book has probably already been printed.

There's another main advantage of ebooks! Typos can be fixed on the fly.

I've got something new for y'all to check out:

I've recorded and put up the prologue and first chapter of Sunborn, as an audiobook podcast! I guess you could call it a teaser for the full audiobook I hope to be producing in the coming months. It's a 14-minute mp3, and I'd love to hear what people think of it.

Too bad Infinite Sea wasn't already for sale at one of the ebook sellers. I had my credit card out and was ready to buy.

Heck, I'd buy the first two ebooks if I could. Sure, the tip jar is ok, but I'd like to make a showing to publishers and online sellers - maybe help show that ebooks are possible as a business.

And I *don't* read paper anymore if there's an electronic version - I have my nice, easy to handle Sony reader that can hold many, many books - imagine lugging around all those in tree versions.

And I get the idea that hardcover first is how the publishing biz works, but the convenience of e-readers is a part of the reason I don't really buy hardcovers - they're huge. I just hope the paradigm changes.

But thank you for putting up the first two books, looking forward to the third, and I hope the 4th will be available to buy as an ebook.

Hardcovers get published first if there is a hardcover edition. Some books get published only in paperback. Publishers make more money on hardcovers, and want to give them time to sell before releasing the paperback edition, so there's a delay.

I'd rather show the authors the love than the publishers. With my $5 payment for an eBook directly to the author he is getting $5 for the book rather than 50¢ going to him.

Also, Richard Hurley's pay if you like it is even better. But, as he says, you really need some way to filter out the junk if just anyone is going to throw up an ebook file.

Perhaps the publishers will see that if they are being bypassed they need to change their pricing strategies and royalty strategies for ebooks. Because, I think the editing and review work that publishers do is important to get quality books out there.

In case any of you missed the new thread I started, The Infinite Sea is now available for download in many (not all, yet) formats. Have at it.

There are other books of mine I want to do as ebooks, but for the next while, I'm shifting my attention to recording an audio podcast of the forthcoming Sunborn. Why not give that a try, too?

I have little doubt that, once the text is available, various people here might be willing to do individual chapters if that would help.
