If you can be bothered, open a calibre bug report. kovid will expect an actual book example that fails and the bug report process is somewhat arcane, but if you do your bit you should get an answer

So I've decided to instead send to kindle.. so just sending mobi. The covers still don't always show, but some do. Are there certain settings in conversion I should use? It really bugs me when they don't show. They always show in the Kindle app, but not always on the actual kindle. Thank you if you can help

Have you tried resizing covers, before converting and sending. My experience was that resizing to 800x600 or to 900x600 worked. Calibre has a resize covers plug in. I think it overwrites the original cover so back up any hi res ones you don't want to lose

Ok ill check the plugin, thanks a lot
This has been frustrating with 500 books, haha.

Also I noticed one mobi of a book worked , and another with ebok of the same title didn't have cover. Its so strange. Seems to be no exact way of determining the problem all the time

Many plugins have their own threads, or ways to contact author for support. The resize covers author may understand the kindle cover issues better than we do.

I use send to kindle to send all my docs to my kindle as I must have the cloud backup. I never use calibre to send stuff for example as I can't access that from my kindle. I never have figured out how to get covers on those books I send with send to kindle. I tried what I can try, with my limited knowledge of that stuff. Most don't have cover, then once in a while there is one. Same conversion, same file version before, still different results.
Thankfully most of my books come straight from Amazon, I only use calibre as a backup. But yes, it does bug me that most of the docs don't have a cover. I gave up trying.

Thanks Atunah, I should give up but haven't yet. There doesn't seem to be just one clear answer why it happens. Like one change will fix one but unfix another... Is so frustrating

I'm absolutely new to Kindle as well. So far I've been using calibre and emailing my books from there. So far all covers have showed up with .mobi but I have noticed a fanfics cover didn't show up on the kindle app on my phone but it does show up on my ereader. Not sure why hit I guess I can live with it as long as the ereader looks nice. Lol

Is there any way to change the Screensaver? Mine is ad free.

Yay! I so far have it working
. I have to convert to mobi and i resize, and leave it on old and pdoc. So far it is working, yay!!!

To silverty , I think you only can if you jailbreak. This thing is so much better than my kobo
