How close is this to being released?
The reason I ask is that I've been using the Calibre Companion in conjunction with Marvin and Kindle on my iPad mini, plus CC with GoodReader and Maple Reader on my iPad pro for a while and have a pretty good handle on how I want to set things up. It seems pretty solid, but I'm leaning towards waiting for the official release before switching all the way over to using CC as the main ebook repository on my iPad Pro (I've already done that on the iPad mini, but that's really just my on the go reader). [just as a note, the plan is to flush all the books out of Marvin and GoodReader, then use CC to send books to the appropriate reader. I will only keep books that I'm actively reading in the various reader apps and will delete the book from the reading app once I read it. ] |

One question. One thing that I notice is that I have three user defined columns in Calibre that are more or less the same - Collection, collections and Collections. (the reason there are 3 is because of some experiments that I was doing with Marvin). The difference between the three is that Collection and Collections are text fields with comma separated entries just like the tag field while collections is simply a text field. CC sees all three customer fields, but collections is the only one where it actually sees the values and handles them. Is this by design? Is it suppose to be able to pick up the comma separated values or is the tags field the only field that handles comma separated values? I'm fine either way, but I might change the way I organize based on that.

I'm also wondering if the final release is soon? A Crashlytics bug prevents me from installing the beta so until the final is out I can't even help with testing.

Anyway. We're again at the point where I think we've fixed everything. However a colleague is going to spend a few hours today going through the app again to make sure that's the case. If we don't find more problems, we'll submit today! Apple have a process to request approval to publish, and we'll have a bit of back-and-forth with them, but hopefully they'll accept the app by early next week. In a sense, even if CC isn't fully ready, we'll have to submit it anyway. Three of us had been working part-time on CC, but we're all starting new jobs soon. Starting from next week it will be just me able to work on CC, but even then I'll only be able to work evenings & weekends on it. I had originally thought CC would be ready a month or two before we parted ways, but it's not quite turned out how I had hoped. |

I look forward to being able to purchase this in the app store. Hopefully you and your partners will make enough money to make it worth while to you.

I am eagerly awaiting the release of CC. Will it read all formats that Calibre reads? How much will it cost? Just not being iBooks already makes it worth buying. :-)

CC is NOT a reader; it's a program to TRANSFER eBooks from calibre to your device.

Oh, well that sucks. Do I have to go back to using Marvin 3 or iBooks then? I was hoping for something that would preserve the series info and number.

Calibre companion saves the series book and number but when you press the read button it opens the book in the reader of your choice (as long as the reader supports it).

Just to keep everyone up to date: we've now passed the first step of Apple's review process! It's an automated scan they do when you upload the app to the developer portal. We had to make a few changes to pass, but that's done now.
We're submitting the app for the full review now. |

Awesome news! I hope the pent up demand for an iOS version makes it all worth your time. A few of my iOS using friends were confused about why CC is a killer app until I showed it to them on my Nexus and they now await the iOS version with the fervor of recent converts.

Apple paused the review and requested clarification from us about some of CC's features late Friday evening. I replied yesterday and CC is now back in their queue. Hopefully it'll go through this time but I expect we'll have a few more messages to trade with them still.
