Based on video, there's no light sensor on this device.
On brightness setting you can manually adjust the brightness only with the dedicated slider. There's no "auto" setting, like the KA1. Also, I think there's no RGB Led lights on the device. The illuminate screen seems so whiter/blueish like my GloHD.

You'd think there would be someone by now since Kobo Glo HD seem to be sold out on Best Buy and Kobo (though I've only checked the CA versions).

Seems like Aura E2 owners are thin on the ground. Can't say I'm surprised as I can't see who Kobo was trying to sell it to. Why they priced it only £10 below the Glo HD that offers an HD screen only the many faced god knows. If they replaced the Touch 2.0 with this at £69.99 then they'd have a pretty sweet entry level device.

I see no reason to give up the beautiful flat bezel and responsive capacitative touchscreen of my Aura.

One plus for the Aura 2 is that the corners look rounder than those on the original Aura. I love my Aura, but those corners can bite into your hand.

Also, while the SD card will be missed, the implementation on the Aura was pretty poor. At least on my device it sticks out of the bottom *just enough* that I've dislodged it while holding it from the bottom.

Still, since the Glo HD exists (for now) the Aura 2 is mind boggling.

I just don't understand why they didn't give Aura E2 300 ppi like the Glo HD. I think I would be sorely tempted to get one if they had. And if not that, why didn't they price it more fairly?

Just how tightly are you gripping your Aura to cause the corners to "bite into your hand"?

However, I do agree with you on the matter of the SD card. It's not a problem for me because I use the Kobo sleep cover, so my hands rarely come in direct contact with the bottom of the Aura, but it's certainly a design flaw.

That said, the internal memory is way more than enough. I have nearly 600 files in my epub library (including several omnibus collections, so the total number of individual books is much higher), and that only uses up 1GB of the 3GB available. I have an SD card installed in my Aura just because I happened to have an extra one sitting around, but I can't imagine I'll ever need it.

I hold it in a death grip! No, really, that's the problem. I tend to hold the Kobo around the bottom corner which causes the corner of the device to dig into my palm and puts my fingers in the SD card danger zone.

I'm coming off the Nook ST, which had rounder corners and had the SD card under a flap.

Yeah, I've learned that the SD card isn't the be all, end all some make it out to be. I only read ePubs on my reader, so three GB is plenty. But given the choice, I'd prefer having one to not.

Kobo will never make a better overall Ereader than the original Aura 6" IMHO.

Just curious, what do you prefer on the original Aura vs the Aura 2?

On paper, the Aura 2 isn't much of a step up from the original. But it doesn't seem to be a step down either. Maybe just a step sideways?

I bought my Aura because I appreciated it's bold (for an e-reader) design. But having lived with the thing for a while there are some things I wish were designed better.

the flush bezel, the micro SD card slot, and the physical light button, none of which are on the new Aura 2.

i would have liked Kobo to have kept all the existing features of the original Aura 6" and upgraded the screen to the same as the KA1, and also added page turn buttons.

if Kobo had done those two things then IMHO it would have been a massive improvement and worthy of the name Kobo Aura Edition 2.

Thanks for the answer man. I can agree with all of those.

The Aura 2 looks to be more rubbery and rounder than the original Aura. I like that.

I'm going to try to look up some Aura 2 reviews on YouTube. Not that I'm looking to replace my Aura.

Take the Kobo 6" case, upgrade the screen, put in the Overdrive. Page turn buttons, not so much. Retire the Touch 2.0 and charge me about $10 more than the Glo HD. Now we're talking!

i wouldn't be surprised if you got that or something very similar in the next 6 " Kobo release, probably in the not too distant future after the sales of the KA1 start to fall.
